Talking Need Help! Going to buy an '08, is Sport really worth it?

Hello everyone! After test driving several cars in the same class, (IS350, 335, etc,) I have decided to go for the G35 '08 Sedan. I am in the process of selling '05 IP coupe (guess I am growing up), and I wanted something that looked a bit classier, but with equal performance. I thought the new G Sedan was AMAZING. The interior is beautiful and so many gadgets to play with.

Long story short, I am going to be getting a Black on OB with Premium and NAV Package. I am thinking the Journey trim, but I am wondering is the Sport edition worth the extra $1400? Because I am in So Cal, I have about 5 dealerships around me, all with huge inventory so I am getting it for invoice. I am just curious if I am making the right decision on the trim. What about Tech? Is that worth it. Nav and Premium is a must, but I would like current owners chime in and tell me that it was worth it for shelling out the extra bucks for the other features, or was it just some nice features that you never use. I think that the Sport bumper looks better, but I really could care less of the paddle shifters and it's a wash between both driver seats (sport/non-sport).

For all you guys that have had your 07-08 Sedan for 15K+ miles on it, if you could buy your car all over again, what would you have done different, if anything?

Thanks guys!!

I have an '07 G35S 5AT with premium/nav/tech and if I had to do it all over again, I'd get the same car. I really like the sport seats, the paddle shifters I can go without (I prefer using the shifter itself) but the LSD and 18" wheels are nice. The larger brakes are neat, but I don't track it and I'm not insane on the brakes so I'm not horribly worried about fade.

The only other factor is the suspension. I'm not sure if it's psychological or what, but the G35X loaners I get definitely feel softer than my G35S, and I like the feel more. Dunno how much of that is the wheels and how much is the suspension though.

The tech package I could do without, but I'd pay extra for it if I can get the car+options at invoice. On the '08 I think tech just gives you ICC and adaptive headlights and pre-collision stuff since now the nav includes the backup camera. The backup camera is somethign I love with my '07 tech package

I came from a BMW 330 (Sport) and went with the Journey. Did not like it. To soft for my taste. And that's what it boils down to. I eventually installed the eibach springs and am MUCH happier (this is riding on the stock 17s). who knows if better tires would have made for a better ride, bit I'm upgrading to 19s when the stock are shot.

In my case, I regretted the Journey because I missed the sporty aspect of driving.

Better wheels and LSD are a bigger deal IMO. Without the LSD, it's waaay too easy to spin the tires (when you don't want to).

Front bumper, side sills, better seats, bigger brakes, paddle shifters..... all pluses IMO.

The "Sport" package is definitely the best "value" in terms of options for our car. You couldn't buy the wheels alone for the price of the package.

FWIW, I don't have NAV or Premium. And I don't miss either. I do have a sunroof and spoiler. Nicer stereo and heated seats would've been nice. But, I live in Florida, and the stereo "problem" was more than fixed with an Image Dynamics IDQ10v3 subwoofer.

I just traded my 07 G Journey with an 08 S with prem/nav/tech yesterday. I'd say go for it.

The LSD, larger breaks and the front bumper are the only things I really would want on the sport. I will be taking off the OEM rims for some new 20" as soon as I get the car

Thanks for your input!

Btw, I wasn't clear here:

I mean that I like the g35S feel more than the G35X loaners I get

That is a great point. Sport might be the way to go afterall. When it comes down to it, it only makes the monthly payment $10-$20 higher.

i have to say, i don't get the whole front bumper thing.
I look at the front bumper for my G35S and the front bumper for a non-S and I just think, eh, it's a bumper (on both cars) .

Then again, I don't really care how a car looks, it can be a cardboard box with wheels as long as it goes fast, is comfortable, and is a safe ride

I understand where you are coming from. As for me, how the car looks is very important to me. I am done with messing under the hood for now. I love my 2005 IP Coupe, but for all the mods I did and time, it was a speed ego thing. But I love have the car "look" like that way I think it should. I have this vision in my head after countless hours searching on this site and around the web of a hot 2008 OB with black leather, sitting on H&R springs with 20" Black rims with a chrome lip, limo tint all around, smoked tails, and shaved emblems. I can almost taste it! In any case, it is my dream!

Thank you guys for your input!

i have an 07 G35S 5AT and i love it. most of the reason i love it is because of its sporty nature. the sporty suspension, paddle shifters, sport seats, bigger wheels, and probably most important of all, the LSD are all phenomenal options. and btw, these are some SERIOUS sport seats, go look at the sport seats in the 3 series, they're a joke compared to mine...i've honestly never driven an 07+ G35 without a sport package, but i honestly don't think i want to, i can already imagine how soft and boringly safe AWD and 17" wheels are

The Sport seats are a bit stiffer, but I do like the Journey seats a bit better after trying them both. I am going to give them both another shot and see we what I go with.

Thanks again.

If I had to do it all over again. I would probably buy a sport even if it was rear wheel drive. In 07 no XS which sucked. Really like the seats, side sills, wheels, bumper, and stitchinng.

For tech, I say don't get it because in 08 the nav comes with rearview camera and that is the only other thing that I would get alongside the sport package.

So for you sport, prem, nav should be fine and especially for invoice to seal the deal. Try to shoot for 500 below. I got that in for an 07 when they were hot so I am sure you can get the same on an 08 with all the inventory.

Enjoy your new ride.

Here's my deal...

'07 G35S 5AT bought in December 2006.

Black Obsidian w/ Stone interior, premium, and navigation.

I would absolutely buy this identical car tomorrow if mine were stolen or totaled today. I could not possibly be happier with my ride.

For me, the Sport package is a given. I like the front bumper and the wheels much, much better on the Sport than on the X or Journey ('07 so no xS).

I'm happy I went with the Premium package, and like the Bluetooth capability that comes with Navigation. Didn't (and still don't) care about the Tech. pkg.
