Tip: Don't leave your GPS on the dash above the steering column!!

Because, when you get out, and the car does its nice "I'll lift up the wheel so he can easily get back in" it will bust the crap out of your windshield!!

Stupid me, I know. But, I couldn't believe when I got back and found a huge a$$ spider web of cracks from where the corner of the GPS was driven against the windshield. There was also a pretty good depression on top of the steering column, but it didn't poke a hole through, thankfully. GPS is also ok. I'm kind of surprised that the motor doesn't have any sort of torque limiting circuitry like the auto up windows do.

PO'd, but at least I'll get a new windshield. Mine had a few chips in it anyways, plus was kind of sandblasted. Hopefully the aftermarket one won't be quite as soft. Sure wish I hadn't put my new State Parks sticker on the windshield LAST NIGHT!

Cracked your windsheild??

Wow, i would never think that a tiny steering motor could be that strong, G/L with the repairs(windsheild and dash blemishes).

I figured you'd be replacing glass based on the title, just not that glass.

LOL, doing a video of crushing different stuff would be hilarious. I could make some really helpful videos, like "How to crack open walnuts with your G35."

I should have taken pics, but I already left the car at the glass shop this morning. I wish it had occurred to me sooner, because it was a pretty impressive break. There were a bunch of cracks all radiating out from where the corner of the GPS contacted the windshield. The longest one was about 15 inches. Looks like baseball hit the windshield or something.

At least the depression in the dash has fully recovered. I'm still laughing about the whole thing though...

Sorry about your bad luck. Glad you're able to laugh it off now.
I'm curious to know what brand and model your GPS unit is. It must be pretty tough.

wow, truly unbelievable. why did you have the gps on your steering column in the first place? seems like an unstable surface, plus it would probably impair your vision, no?
