I have been messing around with this idea for some time. I've never liked the look of the fake plastic mesh, non-functional inlets on the journey front bumper cover. The photos attached are of a mold I am making to replace these "inlets" with a fiberglass insert. I plan to stretch fabric over this mold and through the back, then fiberglass to make a positive mold. I'll clean up that mold to make a negative. Once I have a good negative I can make a finished product. It is precurved to fit the shape of the front bumper and once finish sanded it can be painted body color or even made in carbon fiber or just black. I plan to cut a hole in the face of the finished product to mount fog lamps. I plan to mount black mesh in the back of the vent opening. I could even create some duct work for brake cooling vents. What do you think of the style, shape and concept?

 

Interesting. A little hard for me to conceptualize what you're planning, but might be because I'm just exhausted.

No matter what though, I'm excited at whatever you're doing. I hate the mesh too, and any chance can be a good one.

I'd have to see a photoshop of your design before I could give an honest opinion.
It might look pretty sweet.

 

Here is a very crude version of what I have been working on. The fitment with be precise, unlike my poor Photoshop version. What do you think of the general design? The real thing looks much better than this but obviously I have not mounted, or even finished the fiberglass yet.

yup,, swap the vents with the fogs. it would look much better.

 

Thanks for the input. I don't care how tough you are on the design, as I said it's not a finished product and I have not finished the first version yet. I'd rather hear your unbiased thoughts before spending time on a finished product. It's sometimes hard to "see the forrest for the trees" as they say.

I don't like the idea of fogs on the outside for some reason. Maybe I'll just box out the vent instead of curving the match the shape of the frame. Thoughts on that?

Also, one problem with fogs on the outside is the angle in which they'd need to be mounted since the bumper curves so much at that point. I'd have to recess them greatly.

 

coudln't you put the fogs on the outside as HID projectors so they have a casing and you can extend them an inch or two rather than flush with your vents?

my vote goes to HID FOGS on the outside and grilles on the inside..it will flow with the headlights themselves putting on the outside.

 

I'm actually considering making a set with no fogs, just one larger vent. If I mount lights on the outside the angle is about 40 degrees, they have to be tilted a bunch just to make them face the direction I'm trying to project light. Mounting them out an inch or two does not sound very visually appealing to me. Keep to input coming. Maybe I can make a cool design the masses will like. Thanks!

I like the idea mate, Although I do agree with moving the fog lights to the outside as apposed to the photoshop pic. I would be very interested in getting one if you're offering to sell them in future
