/sigh... I wish I could @least average 19 or so but im getting 14.1 right now. bleh...
This doesn't compute. Unless the 07's have a 14 gallon tank (my 04 has a 20 gallon tank). If I only got 200 miles out of a full tank, that would be 10 miles/gallon.

I did get your point but I don't agree with it, at least for my car. If I count a half tank (top or bottom half) using the 5/10ths instead of the exaggerated tics then I get pretty close to the same mileage out of each half. The only reason that I don't get quite as much distance from the bottom 5/10ths is that I am not actually burning the reserved couple of gallons if the fuel empty warning light comes on. If I ran the tank dry I would bet that I would get equal distance out of each half.

So when your fuel guage reads 1/2 you can only put 10 gallons in your car?

My X averages 12.9L/100km (18.23mpg) in the summer and 14.5L/100km(16.22mpg) in the winter with snow tires. I usually only get about 400km to a tank (250 miles), maybe 425km (265 miles) if I'm lucky. This is based on about 95% - 100% city/rush hour driving. Fuel efficiency is greatly increased in this car if you're traveling at a consistent speed and quick enough to allow the torque converter to lock-up.

Hi guys,

To my surprise i've already crossed 200 miles and the tank is 3/4 empty. I may pull antoher 50 -100 miles out of it. I'm actually seeing improvements in the car milage.

Othher than resetitng the ECU, the only other change is in my driving habits. I don't accelerate to the red bar anymore. Instead i keep it at 3 to 4 x 1000 rpm....but i hate driving like a grannny

Okay, now we are getting somewhere. If you are redlining every start, you are going to get 8-10 mpg. Sorry. It 's the price you pay.

Any car, even a civic, is going to get low gas mileage if you redline every start. The cars just aren't geared to redline every start and be at peak efficiency. Or have any efficiency at that point. You are even passing the peak of the horsepower band and getting into the territory where you lose both power and efficiency.

I'm no expert but the vast vast majority of cars lose power as they reach redline. Most hit peak HP at about 90% of redline. At least according to the charts I see. And they lose efficiency the closer they get to redline. So you are losing BOTH power and efficiency by redlining all the time.

Maybe i wasn't totally clear. I dont redline every time. Only once a bluemoon. But I do accelerate to 5 or 6000 rpm most of the time.

all I have to say is duh. This is one of those common sense scenarios in which it doesn't seem so common.

You should be shifting no later than 3k for fuel efficiency. Ideally you should be shifting at 1.5 to 2k.

I just got done with my second tank and went 365 miles and it took 16.8 gallons to full. Calculates at 21.73 mpg. The computer showed 21.8 so pretty accurate. Mix of 50/50 city and highway. On the trip home on the highway (50 miles) the computer shows 26.8 mpg at 61.8 mph average. Calculating 430 miles until empty.
