Why is the car beeping?

I have noticed that when I shut off the engine and open the door, the car will beep few times. It is not because headlights are on. It seems to be a random thing and I can't figure out why anyone with ideas?

The beeping noise happens when you are trying to lock the car when the door is still open (either driver's or passenger), or/and when the key fob is still in the car, or/and the stereo is still turned on (the last one I am not so sure about though). If neither of the above applies to your situation, then the abovementioned sensor is malfunctioning.

If you open the door before you turn off the car, it beeps. I think this is because the car is saying you left the keys in the ignition.

I thought it was because the steering wheel needs to lock?
Whenever i shut off the engine with the door open, it beeps. when i close the door after that, i hear a clicking sound from the steering wheel and when i try to turn the steering wheel, it locks. If i don't close the door and it continues to beep, the steering wheel does not lock.

Most likely what Christian said.

Might also be because you left it in D instead of putting it on park and turned off car? It throws some weird beeps at you when you do that...learned from experience...

No, he wanted to take this name a while ago but found that it was already used.

Try it both ways. Turn off the engine then open the door, no beeping. Open the door then turn off the engine, annoying beeping will follow.

I did. It's because the steering wheel locks before you open the door in the first method, so no beeping is required. You can easily hear the locking sound in either methods.

The steering wheel lock is just part of turning off the car. In a regular car if you open the door but leave the keys in the ignition it will beep. I believe this to be a left over from non ikey based cars.

I've learned this from experience as well shortly after I first got it. IIRC, it took me at least half hour to figure out why my car was beeping at me.

Found same annoying thing.

Shut off the car completely (remove key fob if you have it inserted in the little thing on the right of teh steering wheel) then open the door and exit. it shouldn't beep intermittently.

If you leave the lights on you will hear a solid beep. that beep i actually want to hear.

the door is closed when I turn off the ignition. the shifter is in park. I still hear random beeps when I open the door. one of the sensor must be malfunctioning. the problem is that it's intermittent and I can't seem to replicate it. I won't be able to take it to dealer until I figure out how to make the noise.

This car beeps so much, it could be a phantom beep.

Kinda like when it feels like your cell phone is vibrating...... but it isn't.

Page 2 - 18 of the G35 owner's manual, for 08', starts a section on audible alerts and tells about audible reminders. Maybe check out the two or so pages and that may lead you to determine what the beeping is about.
