Post GCC vs US specifications

Been reading these forums for the past week, just got my G35 in Dubai and I love it! From what I've seen here are the differences with the US model:

Pros:
- More powerful engine @ 327 HP
- Mix of Journey (wood trim, full options) and Sport (paddle shifters)
- No electronic speed limitation (that's what they told me)
- 6 CD changer in entirely in dash (I heard it was in the trunk in the US, someone correct me if I'm wrong)

Cons:
- No hard drive or flash slot
- No voice recognition
- No Ipod input (only via AUX)

Personally, I'd give up the extra 21 HP for the tech stuff since I love gadgets, but I guess they thought the market wasn't big enough here for those things and people preferred more power.

On another note the dealer said to keep it under 3000 rpm for the break in (1000km) which seems very low. Not sure I'm going to be following his advice

I never did. I have let it rip since 100 miles on my car and at 63k it runs stronger than ever without burning any oil.

  • 327 HP is supposedly just the difference between US and RoW measurements
  • Without NAV, the 6CD changer is in the dash
  • No HD or flash without NAV
  • Ditto voice
  • '07 have iPod only through AUX, '08 have an interface (not sure what it is tho)

Oh, and over here they say 4,000 rpm until 1,200 miles. Good luck!

Good to know.

I have the NAV and BT but none of those options, they're just not available here. And no Ipod in the 08 either.

Yeah, I think that sounds more sensible, 3000 is too low!

If it makes anyone feel any better, if we were using former SAE standards, we'd be rated at 309 hp.

Break in is silly and unnecessary in modern cars.

Plus, unless your car was delivered with ZERO miles on the odometer, you can guarantee the first how ever many miles were spent at mostly full throttle.

LOL, I slowly built up the rpms until I hit 1900km and then let her rip, seems to be doing fine since.....I hope this doesn't turn to another break in thread, and thanks Gabster for this post up, it helps me as I'm in the same boat as you

No problem Defratos, I see you're in Jeddah so you probably have a GCC spec too - lived there (Arabian Homes) when I was a kid!

By the way I was reading the manual and I just noticed that the in-dash 6 CD changer reads MP3s, tried it and it works perfectly! I remember specifically asking the dealer about this and him looking at me funny and telling me that no it didn't.
Now that I think of it, he didn't even know that you could input video through the AUX either until I mentioned it to him, lol.

A quick question, he also said that you could insert a regular movie DVD in the NAV slot and it would play while driving, any truth to that? I guess I'll give it a shot tomorrow and post my results here.
