navigation voice tag?
navigation voice tag?
I have a 08 G35x that I just bought 1.5 weeks ago so I have the limited voice commands compared to the 07s. I like how you can use voice tags with the phone book. So, even though you are limited to the first 5 phone book entries (via the LCD and direct input) you can at least call up any of your phone book entries with a voice tag. It appears you can't do the same for address book entries for the nav. I just wanted to confirm this is true and I'm not missing something. I searched with many different terms and didn't find anything on this forum that confirmed this one way or another. Seems really odd if this isn't an option considering you can manually give an address to the nav via voice command while driving.
As far as I can tell, you are correct. I just got my 08 G35S a couple of days ago, so I've been reading and trying things out.
The best I've found for selecting stored addresses via voice is to use the extended commands and then say 'Address Book' to bring up the first 5 stored addresses. You can then select one by saying its number.

Yeah, that definitely works fine. But you can only select the 5 that are on the screen. Seems odd to me that they have a voice tag option for the phone book but not for the address book.
Yeah- bummer. I had on 06 M and I really miss the lost voice command controls. That system did have the voice tags for destinations and I REALLY miss that. It is too limiting to only have 5 address book entries show. It really does limit the ability to work around the nav lock outs with voice control.
I will say though that we humans learn pretty quickly and, as much as I don't like this, I'm already adapting so it's not the end of the world.

I agree. I can live with it. I just get annoyed at technology decisions that make no sense.
I mean, I don't like the fact that they removed all the 07 voice commands to simplify the system, but I understand that the likely reason was to make the system more reliable. Because, as anybody has probably noticed that even if you say the wrong thing, it still picks something to do most of the time. Sometimes it's asks you to repeat. But many times it just picks what it thinks you said. So, having way less voice commands means less potential for error. But, it would be nice to have those voice commands. But in the case of not having voice tags for the address book, well that just doesn't make sense since that functionality is there in the phone book.

I have an '08 sedan with the nav pkg. I have about 10 numbers in my phonebook. Only the 1st 5 show up BUT I have no problem using the voice tags on the other 5 or so that don't display. I just have to remember what the voice tag is.

AFAIK my new 08 doesn't have voice tags for address book entries. Thus I'm limited to only the top 5 in the addy book. Do you know the version of your nav software?
What would make sense would be to show the first 5 in the list (like it does now), but allow the user to say "next" to then list the next 5 items. That way all could eventually be shown.

And if I read my owner's manual correctly it appears voice tags for the address book ARE available for G35's sold in Canada! Is that true or am I just remembering that incorrectly?

Yeah, I think Canada has the old system. My understanding is that they dumbed down the voice commands due to feedback they got on surveys so we all have to suffer!
One nice thing as you pointed out TakeFlight is that the old system was a bit limiting in regard to its choices if it didn't understand you. I can't tell you how may times I would try to re-pronounce the name of a street b/c only one option would come up from voice command. I like this system better b/c it gives you options of streets that may sound similar - way better!
Cheers!
