Question Help picking Mods. PLEASE!!!

I just got my G35 at the end of last month. I immediately put tints(they look great), but everything else is stock. What are some different mods I can put in the car? I have always leased my cars, so mods weren't an option. Now that I own my car, I really want to make some mods, but have NO IDEA what. I just got a $1000 bonus yesterday, and what to start modding this weekend. I am willing to do performance or A/V mods. I was looking into putting in a TV tuner or improve the sound system. I was also thinking of putting an intake or changing to a K&N filter. I have no idea where to start to what to do.

getting a sub is a great addition to the sound system.. also upgrading your front speakers and dynamating the doors helps a lot!.. if you're looking for performance get a 3/8" MD spacer and an exhaust.. looks go for rims!

Completely depends on what you personally are after.

If it's performance, I wouldn't bother w/ the K&N filter or intake. I'd get either some high flow cats or an exhaust or both.

If you want looks, nothing makes a car look better than lowering it. So, a set of Eibach or H&R springs would give you really good looks + improved handling. I'd also throw on some 20-25mm spacers at all 4 corners if you don't plan on upgrading your rims/tires.

IMO, the stereo sounds pretty good stock. While it would be nice to add a subwoofer, in the long run, it just seems to cause more rattles in the car.

MD spacers are for 06 and earlier Gs w/ VQ35DE motors. They do not work w/ our HR motors.

Depends on what you prefer. For me to add a little more:

Performance: Intakes (Ram or cold... or even just K&N filters) don't seem to do much for the HR motor. Although my Injen CAIs do pull much more air and hence my A/F ratio of all messed up. lol The true gain will be coming from high flow cat or test pipes. I personally prefer the high flow cat because with test pipes, you will be smelling smogs from your car all day long.

Looks: Definitely some drop and if you're little more available financially, wheels will be great addition. Some nice exhaust system also compliments the look of the car as well as some lip kits or rear spoiler (roof or trunk).

Sound: Like AlterZgo said, I really like the stock sound system on the G although it would be even better with an addition of a sub-woofer. Still, IMO, I'd spend my money elsewhere.

If you're into tracking your car or cruising the canyons, you can invest your money on some nice grippy set of tires and just enjoy your G.

Seriously, there isn't much to do with $1000 on a G. I've so far spend much more than that and my car still look pretty much stock. lol

It really is up to you to decide where you wanna spend your money.

Good luck with everything and be sure to keep us updated!

Here is the list I would get not in order:
Exhaust + optional high flow cats (HFC)
Wheels
Drop (springs or coilovers)
Plenum MD 3/8" spacer
1 10" JL10w3v2 sub (or more if you want more bump)
Stillen or Eibach Adjustable Sway Bars (for improved handling, these are an awesome mod for those twisties)
Tint (but you already have that)
Nismo front bumper or some sort of front lip if you don't have sport bumper (great addition to looks, adding to the sportier look of the coupe)
and probably a couple more I can't think of....

This is for 07+ sedans with HR motor.

No plenum spacers are available for it.

you have options with a $1000 to be honest with you...but you did say this was a "bonus" so you could maybe throw a few extra hundred and get yourself a FI cat-back...or you can do it the "custom" route and go to a local exhaust shop and get it done for under a $1000...either way i think this is the first mod you should do...then i'd get a sound system...can't go wrong either way

I always start the modding on my vehicles with protection. Tint, alarm/LoJack, and VentureShield/3m invisible bra.

From there, if staying naturally aspirated, then CAI (cold air intake), headers, exhaust and programmer/re-flash, and lightened flywheel and clutch.

Then suspension: strut tower braces, subframe connectors, sway bars, springs, struts/shocks (hopefully a tuned matched set from one manufacturer of some or all of the above), then since we already have a decent set of 18's with a huge selection of performance tires, a good set of tires (i'm partial to maintaining the overall height of the stock tires and getting a wider section width tire).

We have a pretty clean audio system with a lot of speakers to deal with, getting better sound without changing the stock head unit is not going to be a cheap or fast endeavor and on our vehicles is something i'm hesitant to deal with, despite having 2 vehicles in the past that have been involved in SQ, SQ+ and DB Drags.

From: Waltham Ma,
I would go HFC's and plenum spacer. The intakes like said before do not do much for the HR motor, There is a thread out there that someone accually lost HP with his Injens. He made more WHP with the stock set up. If you want to increase air flow I would get KN drop ins. Funny I'm lookng to do this to mine at Xmas. Nice gift to ME!!! LOL

Plenum design is different from the DE motors. I do not know what they are made of, but it feels kinda like carbon composite material that looks like a giant heat sink.

I'm sure one of the aftermarket company will develop something soon tho'. I'm just patiently waiting like everyone else....
