Abrupt downshifts...

Hey all-

Just recently purchased an 08' G35x and I'm beginning to notice a weird effect on the transmission. Regardless if I'm in "Manual Mode", "DS Mode" or fully automatic, when I slow down the vehicle and come to a stop I'm noticing a "jolt" effect from 2nd to 1st gear. I'm not really sure how to explain the "jolt" effect, but as the car is coming to a stop...right around 2K-1K RPM, the transition from those two gears are very abrupt. It actually throws me forward against the seatbelt if that gives you any indication on the jolt feeling.

Unfortunately, the dealership is about 1.5hrs from my house so I'm trying to gather all the problems first so that I can get it all repaired at the same time. I also hear rattles coming from the moonroof like that of the my previous 05' G coupe. Has anyone else experienced this effect on your new G? I've got about 1,000 miles on her =(

Thanks for any input!

Hmmm.. that sounds like the one the the TBS, where the car would lurch forward, They should have fixed it for 2008, did you buy new? search the TBS and print that and take to the dealer they should fix it.

Normal, I get the same thing if I'm somewhere between 10 mph and 5 mph. Above or below that it seems to be smooth.

Csquared: I wouldn't say that it launches forward, but rather more like a hard brake and then it gradually comes to a smooth stop. Almost feel like the rev-match is not working properly when it down shifts. Yes, it was purchased brand new. Where can I find the TSB on this that you're referring to...link??

Thanks guys! I was really concern if it was a tranny problem. Like G35Now says that it is smooth anywhere above or below 10mph - 5mph. The in between range is where it feels like the car is braking hard, or the engine is retarding the power or it feels like the rev-match is not working correctly...

i think i know what you're talking...this happens to me when i'm in first gear going about 5-10 mph...it quickly switches from the feeling of the engine braking to what it feels like when you're going 30mph in 4th gear...kinda back and forth during these speeds...does this sound like the symptoms your car is having?

It sounds somewhat similiar, especially with the concept of "engine braking". It only happens when shifting from 2nd to 1st and not vice versa. In the higher gears such as 5th to 4th or even 3rd, its not as abrupt as our system can rev-match.
