Eh... I'd hold off on that wet sand advice unless you have a real good idea of what you are doing.
Read up on proper polishing techniques (Google is your friend) and then try some Scratch-X

Scratch-X works great, depending on what type of scratches you have.

if used properly it should work just fine as scratches/swirls from a towel are USUALLY light and on the top most surface scratches that scratch-x should be able to take out, if you do it by hand, you need some serious muscle, otherwise porter cable....

Heavy force is not required. Use straight lines when applying, front to back. Don't use circles. Use a terry cloth sponge applicator... dry for light scratches, a little dampened if the scratches are a bit deeper and the polish needs to be a little more aggressive.

Polishes like Scratch-X have little abrasive bits in it, that break down as you continue to buff it in. It requires a little elbow grease. Don't expect to wipe on and off like wax and have the scratches be gone. Put a little bit (size of a pea) on your applicator and work it into a small 2ft x 2ft area. Work using straight lines. Continue to work it in until it looks and feels like the polish is gone. Check from several angles, in the light, for progress and continue as needed.

It's a PITA, but it works very well for minor spider web scratches. Once you are done, look into better towels. Micro-fiber is your friend, but only when they are clean. Never put them in the dryer.

Good luck.

After you fix the scratches, go out and get yourself some shammys...they come in a plastic tube -- that way you won't scratch it when drying!

Also, I always use dish soap and my fingers to remove bird droppings very gently!!

There's a lot of different schools of thought here.
I personaly find both natural and sythetic chamois to be too abrasive.
A thick 100% cotton waffle weave micro-fiber is the safest method of drying.

As for washing, just keep in mind that dish soap removes wax, sealant, etc. so if you use that, you'll need to then add new protective layers.

There's a lot more to this, but I'm on my iPod which takes longer to type.

update... I wanted to post pics of how bad my car is... but freaking sun... shine from the car wouldn't show the scratches...

w/ scratch-x, i was able to "hide" the scratches? if i get look at it close enough where my nose touches the hood, i see the scratches... (better then before tho)

I thought this product would remove it?

any comments would be helpful!

Scratch-X doesn't hide scratches, it polishes the surrounding to blend and "polish" the scratch out. If these are bad enough that you can feel them with a fingernail, you may need more than polish alone.
If you can see them but not really feel them, scratch-x will take them out in just one take. It will take multiple sessions.

Remeber, this is a polish. This is not filling them and will not hide them. If you want to hide them, try a polymer sealant like Zaino Z-5. This is a non-abrasive compound designed for just that reason... hiding minor scratches.
4 or 5 coats of Z-5, followed up by 4-10 coats of Z-2.... that'll bring a tear to your eye.
