G37 Sedan - 75lbs.
Hey guys,
Since ordering my car, I'm thinking already about mods...I know, its a sickness. Since not to many power mods will be out yet for the VQ37, I'm thinking about taking out some weight, w/o runing the car. I'd like to get a lightweight battery, say 10lbs total vs. the stock 50ish pounds (anyone every weighted a G battery) and maybe take out the spare tire/jack kit and replace it with fix a flat.
75lbs is pretty significant and unlike a power mod, its good for braking and handling too. Am i crazy? LOL.
How about lightweight exhausts. Anyone got any suggestions?
Mike S.

Right on. I think I remember the name Frankie. I was way into modding my 93 (but I didn't have the $$$), but my SE-R...lol...I haven't even changed a light bulb. That thing is bone stock..well...except my winter tires/rims.
I'm looking forward to adding a bit of power to the G37 (6sp btw ), taking off some weight and maybe a few other things, but nothing crazy.

Update...so I did some fooling around this afternoon.
Number 1: My current ride (06 Altima SE-R)..so...VQ35DE, engine battery came in at 38.6 lbs. I'd assume a stock battery in a G35/37 to be around the same weight. Guess I was hoping the battery would weight more..so the savings would be more. Even still, a 10lb Braile batery would mean almost a 30lbs saving.
Number 2: Spare tire (T155/80 17) from my car came in at 40.6lbs! According to the 09 G37 brochure, the G has a 145/80 17in spare...so I'd assume it weights almost the same.
Others: jack/crowbar - 5lbs. Trunk mat - 5lbs. The trunk mat is the nice mat that is already on top of the standard trunk liner.
So....swapping battery and spare out and replacing the spare with a can of fix a flat and my emergency kit (which includes an air pump) should net me...
-30lbs for new battery
-40lbs for no spare
-5lbs for jack
-5lbs for trunk mat
+5 for fix a flat and emergyency kit
=75lbs!

Mike that is good drop in the weight but for regular street driving you probably won't notice that much. On a track or strip it would definitely help.
Another way is to replace yor wheels with a lighter forged set. You would also be surprised at weights of tires in the same size, but different manufacturers.
But as I said driving on the street your weight savings would probably be hardly noticeable.
Have fun with it.
