Question about tire rotation

My son has an 07 G35S. He took the car to his local dealer for service and they charged him $75 to rotate the tires.

Over Thanksgiving, he brought the car to my dealer in a different state. He asked him to rotate the tires, in addition to other services, and he said they could not do it because of the different size tires (front/rear) and the fact that the tires are directional.

Sounds like my dealer is honest. He could have taken his $75 like the original dealer did and no one would have known the difference. What a breath of fresh air. Now he has to argue with the original dealer to get his money back.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

The S model tires can't be rotated normally (i.e. back-to-front). They can however be "rotated" side-to-side, which has dubious worth. Could be the dealer did that, which means you still shouldn't go back there; they should have explained it so your son could make an educated choice.

Next tinme let him take it to his dealer again and tell him to mark the tires on one side. Tell your son to ask for rotation. See if they try to screw him again. If yes then he has evidence they did not do it and he can get the money back for both rotation and talk to the service manager right away.

Yes, if you've got the time you can 'catch' them, but most likely they will swap them side to side and take the moral high ground. If they don't, they'll happily refund and claim it was an innocent mistake. It's very frustrating that many dealers ignore the owners manual on tire rotation and scheduled maintenance, charging everyone for premium maintenance instead of Schedule A. On my car, I wouldn't let them do premium, and they refused to do Schedule A. It was a waste of a morning, after which the GM apologized, claiming it was a training issue and the techs have since been retrained - BS.

Either way, $75 is a RIPOFF for simple tire rotation.

Lots of places will do it free with an oil change or other service.

It takes like 5 minutes tops to do (15 seconds if you have a nascar pit crew).
