Infiniti Overstock Hall of Shame--Two Weeks Later!

Two weeks ago, I was having a slow night at work, so I started investigating how many G35's were still "out there". Well, two weeks later, they are still there, but some of them have been sold. I have noticed that there are more G37 sedans starting to trickle into dealers as well.

Here are the numbers. The first number is what they had two weeks ago, the second number is what they have now. The cities with an asterisk are cities that have G37 sedans.

Atlanta (Nalley, both dealers) 97 92
Houston 80 40
*Tampa 56 47
*St. Louis 54 49
Edison, NJ 52 46
Raleigh, NC 50 43
*Cincy 46 39
*Charlotte 44 37
*Baton Rouge 43 37
Baltimore 42 33
Orlando 32 25 (26 2008 G37 coupes!)
*Richmond 30 28
*Columbus 28 23
Nashville 27 18
Miami 25 14
Jacksonville 24 20
Louisville 23 21
Greenville, SC 22 20
Columbia 20 19
Knoxville 15 3
Chattanooga 14 13
*Birmingham 14 14
*Rhode Island 11 24
Mobile 9 8
Savannah 8 6

I don't think that the Houston dealer sold 40 cars in two weeks...they might have unloaded some cars to another dealer or just had not updated their websites for awhile. It's nice to see that slowly they are selling some of those 2008's off. In case anyone was wondering, Riverside Infiniti has 13 G35's left and da Mayor has 60 at his dealer in Massapequa.

Enjoy!

That is some good research.

Infiniti of Edison is the closest dealer to me. We're only 1 month away from 2009 and I don't see how they will be able to clear 46 G35 sedans in less than 1 month. Infiniti will have to deliver substantial incentives in the range of $5000 - 8000 to move cars that quick. Whether they give those incentives this month or not doesn't matter because an 2008 sedan in 2009 would only go for that price anyway.

They're going to lose money. The question is when do they want to do it, now or later.

I agree -- I am in the market for an '08 G35x, and I guess I will play the waiting game till xmas, and see what happens. IMO, Infiniti need to offer $$ rebate AND low APR -- similar to Acura. I just test drove an '08 TL yesterday, and those are getting sold rather fast.....

One problem I see in ATL is they are really low balling trade-ins, I know the used market sucks too, but it becomes a cathc 22, I can;t buy a new car if I can't unload my used car. They dropped their trade-in offers by $3K-$5K on me in about 6-8 weeks. So looks liek I will sell on my own and hold out for a G37 sedan then. As mentioned elsewhere, people coming off lease are in the sweet spot now, they don't have to haggle or worry about a trade.

Actually here in ATL most Acura dealers are down to low single digits of 08 TL's left, they blew them out starting in September at $3500 under invoice and I hear they are $4K under invoice now.

TL's had a model change

IMO, everyone makes a BIG deal about the G37 sedan, but realistically, 98% of buyers won't give the power a second thought. They're both fast.

True and I wonder if that is helping clear out the 08's faster. You go Acura shopping and see the ugly 09 TL then see a bargain on the 08 and I bet some are looking to take the bargain even though they might want an 09 in theory, I see some on the Acura boards basically taking 08 over 09.

Charlotte, if the numbers are correct, has only sold 3 2008's in the last few weeks unless they have picked up add'l to replace ones they have sold. As for the 2009's in stock, they have 2, both of which were at the Charlotte Auto Show two weekends ago (Silver Journey Sport Prem NAV and a Slate Blue Journey Premium NAV).

The problem with those two 2009's is they've had several thousand people sitting in them, jacking up the radios, etc. and then there were the hundreds of snotty kids whose parents didn't have them on a leash that were laying all over the hoods, etc. I actually saw some dumb@ss smiling as his little girl laid down on the hood face first and basically wiped it from side to side with her jacket (zipper and all). I have to admit the paint held up better than some others I saw there which covered in swirls under the bright fluorescent lights...but she still made me cringe. (I have a small child who I have a pretty good handle on so I can call that guy a dumb@ss).

Crystal Ball time....

So the G35 incentives expire today. What do we think we'll see tomorrow?

Will Infiniti just renew the exisiting offers?

Infiniti will let the dealers eat what they have now, they had enough time to sell their inventory?

Infiniti will bump up the incentives to $5-$6K to clear these pesky remaining cars out.

I mean they have to have increased costs no matter waht, if they don't start selling G37 Sedans's they are paying storage costs to keep them somewhere, so why not take the hit on the remaining 08's? I have been cross shopping other cars becasue I really want a new car, and don't necessarily want a year old new car. I'm sure they are loosing some sales due to not having 09s yet.

Is there an official Infiniti site that shows the $3,000+$1,000 incentives?
I'd like to pick up a G35 ASAP, and want to see the incentives tomorrow.

I know i can go to edmunds, but they often take a few days to update the site.

I spoke to my dealer last Wed. regarding 2009's and my frustration. Like you Kluken, I am in the market now, although I will live if I have to wait a while. I have toyed with looking at other cars but frankly I'm not all that interested and the ones I would pick over the G37 are ones that are out of my price range when I get all of the options I want added (just to make them comparable to the G). He said that he would have information on availability, etc. for the 2009's "early next week" referring to the current week. I wonder if that timing is a coincidence as the offers on the 2008's are expiring? My dealer has told me for months that he wouldn't have any and couldn't tell me anything now he is saying he'll actually have some details. We'll see!

Also, the non-stop Infiniti commercials that are running for their "Winter Event" now has a '37S' badge on their silver G-sedan whereas they had been running a '35S' badge. I have been watching it closely as they only show a glancing shot of the trunk but it has changed in the recent commercials. I am hoping that means they will be releasing some 2009's but could mean nothing I guess.

I too saw this commercial alot lately, so I slowed it down on my Tivo to see what's what.

1) Yer right, the model displayed is a 2009 G37. At the end of the commercial, in the fine print, it also says that the 2009 G37 Journey is displayed. Liev Schreiber (the announcer) also mentions the "New G", specifically not mentioning the words "G37". Gotta love truth in advertising- display the new 2009 model that you basically can't purchase and push the crazy incentives for the 08 G35s, which aren't even pictured.

2) The Winter Event commercial is pushing a lease deal and 0% financing for 2008 G35s only. The fine print regarding the leasing says the 2009 will 'cost more'.

Inifiniti is really dropping the ball here by not having the 2009's locked, loaded and ready to sell with instant savings (either 0% or other low APR or cash back). Eat the 08's Infiniti - out with the old and in with the new.

I am willing to pay the difference to get into a G37, but I guess I will wait. Funny the dealr called me today and offered me more for my trade and had the G35 I wanted with 21 miles on the odo, I like low/no miles on my cars.

Seeing as the ATL dealrs still have tons of inventory I have to agree. If they want to clear them then up the incentives tomorrow, make it rediculous to pass up and blow out the remianing stuck inventory so I can either be convinced to eat the 1 year old new car or free up the pipeline to get me the 09 I prefer!
