Sometimes it's good to take some time off from studying and letting your brain relax by doing something completely different (i.e. installing mods).

 

lol thanks guys, but 4 mid terms in 3 days is major killer with a paper due on the 4th. You have no idea how much i struggle when my parts are next to my books hahaha.

 

Hahaha... Oh trust me, I know... I went through the same thing when I was in college in the early '90's and had my Eclipse GSX that I was modding at the time... Between studying, working, and modding, I never seemed to have any time left for sleep. LOL

 

If you have time to check driver, you have time to mod Just wing it...that's how I made it through undergrad and grad school...not so much residency tho.

OK... I just got done installing my 2-pt and 4-pt braces. It was a VERY easy job. It only took me about 45 minutes from start to finish and half that time was spent getting the car up on jackstands. You will need a 17mm & 19mm deep-well sockets, as well a a 17mm box wrench... also, if you have a breaker bar or cheater bar, you'll probably make good use of that. You will need the box wrench to hold the upper portion of the bolt for the rearward nuts for the 4-pt brace... also make sure your exhaust is cool for this job, as those 2 rearward bolts are very close to the cat pipes and you'll need to squeeze your hand up in past them to hold the box wrench on the bolt, at least until you can get the wrench wedged in while you loosen the locknuts... and yes, those two are locknuts. LOL

I don't have any driving impressions yet, but I did take lots of pics, including a few for Allen, so he could see the ground clearance implications of installing these... Incidentally, it looks like these only sit down about a 1/2" lower than the front sub-frame and undercover, so you'll hardly loose any ground clearance.

Thanks, Robby. I'll let everyone know what I think after I've had a chance to drive the car around a little today.

 

Ok... some preliminary driving impressions.

Just took the car out for a spin after installing my new Tanabe exhaust and braces. The first thing I can tell you is that the braces defnitely make a difference. I don't know how to explain it, but the chassis simply feels stiffer and more rigid. It's odd, though, because these braces almost make the ride feel a little stiffer. This could be because the 4-pt brace actually bolts the inner control arm mounting points together and then connects them to the lower subframe, which make eliminte a bunch of suspension flex when going over bumps. The ride isn't harsh by any means, it's just that I can seem to feel the road a little more now... I actually like the feel. The biggest diffence no is when I go over a speed bump or drive up the curb into my driveway... there is virtually no chassis twist at all anymore and you can actually feel the entire car tilt a little as I come into my driveway now, when before the chassis just flexed a little and the car would stay more level. I haven't taken the car thorugh any twisties yet, so I don't have any handling impressions yet, but I will post more once I've had a chance to drive the car a little harder.
