Ordering?

I read in one of the threads that someone "heard" that production was halted until May and that orders wouldn't be taken / filled until at least 60 days later.

Mike / Kenny / anyone else at a dealership, is this really the case? I was under the impression that after the first of the year they would be taking / building ordered cars again.

I thought it was halted until January, I hope that it isn't until May because I wanted to order mine next month.

Hey guys,
I can only tell you what the dealer told me (two of them)

one in Bluffton ,SC and one in Augusta,GA

I thought that I was getting the jerk around from the one and called another and it was confirmed.

Let's assume they planned on relasing the G37 end of September, and they ramp that up so if they built the early G37 based on old projections they have 3 months of G37 inventory sitting on docks and wareshouses somewhere. With lower sales that is probaly more like 4-5 months, maybe, so waiting until May to build more cars seems a bit long, even the Big 3 whihc are taking a bigger beating are only shutting down and extra 1-2 weeks and trimming build rates after that. Can Infiniti really stop the G37 line for 5 months and then expect to pick right up and maintain good QA on those early builds? Seems liek it may be worth skipping 09 altogehter, you have cars sitting idle for 3+ months then you get a btach in May that are like first built cars. Wonder how true this is.

I don't know if they're going to halt production for 5 months but Nissan has announced that they will implement non-operating days, reduce production and jobs at the Tochigi factory where the G is built.

As for early production G37s, I saw a few August production vehicles at my local dealership and I'm sure there are plenty at the port. My G37 was manufactured in November so there are some of those out there.

Well I can pretty much tell you that if I want to place an order in January (which I do) and it can't be built until May/June then I won't be buying a 2009 G37. I do not buy cars that are 4 - 6 months from the beginning of a next model year but. Call me snobby or whatever but I do not want to be driving a year old car 4 months after I buy it. If it takes that long then I will wait for the 2010's and I can guarantee you I will be looking a lot harder at the other brands.

I like Infiniti A LOT but they're approach to this mess is a lot different than their competitors who have faced the fact that they are going to lose on their '08's and it is better to sell some 2009's along with 2008's than it is to lose customers.....

I dont think there is a true availability issue.....there is an issue with ordering the car spec'd to your liking if Infinitis magic car builder in the sky doesnt prebuild it your way.....I had to suck it up and take the stone interior, which I like but would go for the black for dirt issues.

DITTO DITTO!! I don't anyone else that has held up 09s regardless of their 08 inventory. Twice now I have been ready to buy an 09 and can't, now I will probably wait until March, but that is a long time off, things can change or I may find something else I like better!

I really had no choice but to comprimise a bit based on the woman who pulled out in front of me and destroyed my Volvo

Any update on this? Are dealers able to again submit orders to Infiniti?

I'm trying to figure out the same thing. I want to order a car as well the way I want it but no one has told me if the dealers can submit orders or not yet.

If they're accepting orders now, they are usually submitted during the first week of the month. At least that's what I was told both times I placed orders...

rx794 - Contact forum member da Mayor. I believe his dealership is on Long Island and he should be able to help your out.

Good luck!
