Finding a G37xs the way I want it.

O.K…. So I want a 2009 Infiniti G37xs Blue Slate, graphite interior with wood trim, Navigation, Premium Package, splash guards, and spoiler. I live in Rhode Island and my dealer has 6 2009 G37 sedans, none even close to my desired specs. I’ve checked all the dealers in the New England area’s web sites and none of them have anything close… How long is this B.S going to go on for? When will dealers get inventory of 2009s in stock? I feel like I should be able to go in and buy a car when I want! That’s been the case with the past 3 Acura TLs I have bought. F.Y.I. my Acura dealer has 41 2009 TLs in stock! At worse wait a week or so for the car to be found and shipped to me would be reasonable. I’m not trying to buy some sort of Exotic GT-R. This should not need to be ordered, and I should not need to wait 90+ days… I do not know the exact time frame as to when I will pick the car up (with in the next 30-60 days. I'm doing some financial house keeping right now, and in the process of moving)

So what should I do? Should I order a car to my specs? What if It comes in before I’m ready? Should I find financing before I order the car? I’ll probably shop around for financing so that will take some time too. If I order it, what’s the procedure? How much money do I put down to order the car?

Thanks

The only solid advice I can give you is do not buy the Acura TL, its so ugly it hurts to even look at it. Just order to your specs, put down the mnm, which isnt that much anyway and finance when the car arrives. Am sure they will give you the heads in enough time for you to arrange your finances well ahead of the time of arrival

I may be wrong, but I think for 2009 you can get sport and wood. If I order a G37, do I negotiate price when I put my order in or when the car comes in? How much do you put down as a deposite when you order?

Go to the Infiniti website and try configuring the car the car they way you want it to see if the combination is available.

You should negotiate the price when you order the car. However, you should also have something in writing about applying the incentives that are avilable when the care arrives as they'll probably be better in 3-4 months. Regarding the deposit, it varies from dealer to dealer. Personally, I've seen anywhere from $500 to $2,000.

Part of why your Infiniti dealer has 6 G37's and your Acura dealer has 41 TL's is because the new TL's are butt ugly, and as a consequence, people lean to picking up the 08's more readily than the 09's.

Infiniti on the other hand improved the G by giving it a bigger engine, better brakes, etc, etc. So it makes sense that many people don't pick up an 08.

But like I said, that's only part of the reason. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will chime in and fill you in on the rest of it.

when I build it on infiniti's web site I can have both sport and wood. The issue when I build it on their site is it won't let me add a spoiler when I have wood. I know I can just have my dealer add the spoiler... Right?

JMO, but I think most dealers stock alum. interior because it sells better.
...so wood is going to be tougher to track down in your desired build.

That said, if you can live with the lead time to order;
Yes the dealer can add the spoiler.
...I bought one and added it myself on my 08.

The other possibility is to have the dealer swap out the alum & install the wood.
Not all dealers are willing, but it has been done.

IIRC from an older thread, it's somewhere around $400....
if I come across the thread I'll post it.

If I remember correctly, Acura started phasing out production of the '08 TLs in the spring (certain package/color combinations were no longer being built) and started full production of the '09 TL in early summer. When the spy shots of the '09 TL started appearing on the internet in late June, a lot of people who were waiting for the '09 TL bought '08s as they did not like the "styling" of the new model and dealers were heavily discounting the '08s. Unfortunately, for Acura, they already had a large stockpile of new TLs when the credit market came screeching to a halt in September.

The earliest built '09 G's I've seen were manufactured in August for the original planned September release date. Nissan/Infiniti, like all other manufacturers have cut production as the demand for new vehicles has diminished. In fact, Nissan just announced the other day that they will idle the Tochigi plant, where most Infinitis are built, for 13 days in February.

I just spoke with my local dealership, they brought up another good point as to why Acura has a large amount of TLs on hand. Acura makes their cars in the USA and does not need to import them.
