Passing power on the highway?
I come from an '04 Acura TL (with AEM intake only) .. and as many know, Acura's are top end power engines .. VTEC, blah blah...
Was comparing my wife's new G35X on the highway to my '04TL (well-broken in engine .. 90k miles) and was just thinking that by my butt-dyno.. my TL seems to pull harder to the end of 3rd gear (just past 90mph) than does the G ... (500 miles on the ODO only .. oh, 5AT TL)
The G deee-stroys the TL in the low-end and mid-range, btw, and there is simply no comparison (imho) in terms of that. Handling wise the X obviously trumps my Aspec TL front-driver...
Curious to know what you all have thought about the passing power on the G at highway speeds (5AT) .. was thinking that the G37 should be much more aggressive, no doubt, in terms of highway passing power...

When you say at the end of a gear, I gotta think v-tec. The honda v-tech engines tend to have their power curves weighted toward the upper rpm ranges. So wonder if what you're feeling is the TL's power curve, vs the Gs where both peak torque and peak hp are at a lower point relative to redline.

By the time the TL makes it to those higher end curves its already been a day since the G passed it.... lol
Just kidding, the G does feel like there is less power at the higher end, but as mentioned above you can access the power quickly by downshifting twice, on the flip side, the G is much smoother and has better sound dampening than any TL I have been in and can compare it to, don't get me wrong by no standards is the G super quiet either, but quieter than a TL so you may feel as if it has less power when in reality you are really flying.....

That's interesting, usually the complaint is that at highway speeds the Gs are too high in the RPM range, so there's resulting in bad gas mileage and overly sensitive throttle adjustments due to the "amount of torque available."
Anyway, no, haven't noticed this. If you want to actually rocket past someone at highway speeds in an AT, you need to be in 3rd. However, in 4th at 75+, have had no issue in smoothly passing when needed.

but yes, the car is definitely (TL) top-end power (not at all like a turbo or anything) but has a nice snap when I am hanging out anywhere near 5000 rpms .. the car doesn't put nearly as much power to the wheels as the infiniti, however.

Give it some more time to break in....or free up some power by reducing the exhaust restrictions. Cutting out the y pipe for an x pipe or h pipe will add good power up top but will barely add any exhaust noise on an otherwise stock exhaust. Mine is right at 13k miles and it feels stronger than ever, especially in the upper rpms.
