7AT Mode Comparison

Acceleration wise probably DS is quickest. But for every day driving here are my thoughts on the different transmission modes. I'll give you my experience using the 5 speed on the G35Xs. 5 speed or 7 speeds it's still an automatic. In normal every day driving at a relaxing pace D is a good option. This is what I mainly use when I'm just commuting, specially in the morning. If you plan to drive the G on the sporty side switch it to DS. DS holds the gears longer and the throttle respond quicker to your input. Does a pretty good job downshifting on its own. M to me is artificial. Before I bought my G I was driving nothing but stick since 1983. For me M feels fake and cannot compare to the feeling and excitement you get as you hit the clutch and row through the gears.
I don't care if it's paddle shifters on an auto or paddles shifters on a DSG type gear box. Sorry folks it's not the same feeling and excitement. I rarely use M at all. But here's where the paddle shifter do work well. I have no problem using the paddle shifters to downshift while in D mode for quick passing and for steep curves. In those situations the paddle shifter work well with D and as soon as the action ends if goes back to normal D mode.
Hope this help.
