lol so true, I've done the same thing, but in a open area (thank god). Switched of the VDC and didn't think it'll make too much of a difference, I was wrong , the car did complete 360 from a standstill.....scared me ****less cause I wasn't expecting it lol , thank god no one or nothing was around or else I would have easily hit the car

 

With a hit like that, would it be prudent to check the motor mounts? I've had other cars that suffer broken motor mounts in moderate impact accidents. Are the G's motor mounts robust?

 

Our motor mount are liquid filled and i think are pretty hardcore.

I have an X, and last time i was going in straight line and hit a patch of black ice I did a 540 into a wall lol. VDC and the AWD system bailed on me, when i stopped both lights were one lol.

I can only imagine how it would be like to drive a S hard with no VDC. X with No VDC in snow is pretty good though.

you guys really need to start turning off that VDC and getting used to controlling the car without it. It will help ALOT in an accident when you need to countersteer. go to a big empty parking lot or even a drift track and learn drifting your car. It's heavy but a pretty good drifter! I remember I entered a roundabout a little too fast once and hit a water puddle, i drifted my way out of an accident that would've really messed the car up (VDC was off). Good luck fixing the car, could've been much worse but the G took it nicely!

 

I had a similar accident in my Q45 9 years ago.... but on ice. Alignment has been off ever since despite replacing all control arms and the bearing (camber is zero, should be -1).

Be sure to get the alignment checked after the repair work is done to be sure it's within specs.

 

+1 The only car I have ever had that ended up pointing in the wrong direction. VDC was on and was going around a 90 degree corner on a damp road and the back end stepped out without any warning. (FYI, spent a day at Silverstone Rally school, ask me about hand brake turns!)

My G35 Journey was traded in a while back due to the poor service at Infiniti of Kirkland and the never ending quality issues. I suspect that Nissan have got the kinks ironed out in the new G37. The new beast is an IS-F. The VDIM is better dialed in and it is more predictable, I also believe that VDIM and VSC are complimentary to a good chasis design.

I would be interested to hear peoples thoughts on owning the new G37, as one of my gripes with the G35 was the poor MPG, and yes I am driving a 5.0 V8 now but here's why I am asking. On the same long run in the G35 at 14,000 miles, I managed to squeeze 26.8 MPG over 300 miles averaging about 70 mph. In the IS-F in the same rainy cold conditions on an engine that was at 1,200 miles I got 25.4 MG. Is the MPG in the real world much better on the G37 due to the 7 gears?

 

Averaging 70 I got 21 mpg in my G35x.

 

Good advice given. I tested my car with the VDC off in an empty parking lot and totally toasted my tires. It was so fun, I was just going in circles, but it was exhilerating! After that I knew how wild the rear could get so I only turn my VDC off when there is no median throughout the curve or turn it off at a light just to gun it. Glad you weren't hurt and got everything all fixed up!

 

Should you take the red pill or the blue pill? That is the question. Ignorance is bliss. Leave the VDC alone unless offroad.

 

same thing happened to me about a month ago, except i didnt have vdc off! hit a curb and axles broke. From personal experience the ride quality had changed, and i skid a lot more on turns that i didnt before =[. total cost of damage with replaced wheels were $1600

 

That was stupid and trust me I did stupid stuff too but not on my car..."yet" , atleast you are safe which is good news!

 

same thing happened to me with VDC on. 5k in repairs so far
