I did exactly the same thing in a corvette about 10 years ago. I turned off the traction control, and then I accelerated hard through 2nd gear. The rear end felt like it was on ice. The car almost did a 360, and it wouldn't recover. I slid right into the curb. I ended up with the same damage as you. I had to have the car towed to the dealership. I didn't claim insurance, and the repair was around $1500. New rim and suspension parts. My pride was rather damaged too. I don't think I'll ever disable the traction control again.

Sorry to hear that.
I guess having a X makes that much difference.....I have taken VDC off in a parking lot when I first got my car, just to see how this thing handled and I cannot do what you did. My brother in law has an 05 sedan sport model and I watch him loose the back end quickly. He can do donuts and he envies that I cannot...I'll stick with my X, more control.

But everyone should practice extreme driving in an empty lot so they know how their individual cars handle.

So should be picking up an 08 G35 anywhere within the next three weeks and basically the conclusion is. Unless your in a very open area leave the almighty and mystical VDC button alone. Got it.

I almost ALWAYS drive with my VDC OFF... I hate the fact that the car limits your driving capabilities..

VDC = Training Wheels...

Unless it's pouring hard or snowing my VDC is always OFF!

When I first got my car, I wasn't used to that much power and accelerated too hard on the freeway and it was raining and a similar thing happened to me with my VDC ON but luckily I let off the gas and was able to regain control. Now I'm very hesitant to accelerate hard in the rain around other cars (or curbs).

First day I bought my car. First stop light from the dealer. Turned off VDC, I was doing a left turn, I gunned the crap out of it. Made a 270 degree turn. I learned my lesson not to gun it on turns. I was used to a Altima 2.5s 175hp.

lol, I have a similar story, was driving a AWD suv the whole time, and never ever got it to slide first time in the G in the rain I gave it some gas while making a slight left turn and it slid out a bit, but VDC kicked in and got me in line. I freaked out a bit since it was unexpected but then after that I understood how crappy my tires were in the wet. Much better then learning on the highway or something :O. Everyone kept telling me I was a RWD noob and thats how it is. But with my new tires all my wet traction issues are gone.
