An odd thing with my OEM intake.

I was tapping the air filters last night to get some debris off and noticed that the driver side airbox is missing the elbow that connects it to the "scoop" feeding air into it from outside. (I'm assuming that's what it does)

If you're facing the car, with the driver side headlight to your right, the elbow is in-between the headlight and the airbox, somewhat hidden down there.

It only occurred to me when i saw the non-terminating pipe sticking up. I doubt this is normal, do any of you guys have the same thing?

Thanks.

Not sure about an elbow but there is a plastic conduit connecting the area in front of the radiator to the air box--it is this same area that you enlarge to install the stillen gen3 intake. There is also a small round opening connecting the airbox to the resonator on the bottom.

That I believe is what connects your air intake to the silencer, for the intake. If I think you're talking about what i'm thinking. It's like a small little tube right?

WOw I have a G35X 08 as well and on my box that tube thing I can take it off. Like a twist turn. That thing is the tube that leads to the silencer box.

kregg, as always, thanks! that's exactly the piece i'm missing.

So, is this the tube that feeds air to the intake, or is it for silencing? I find it odd that it's missing.

i took that little piece off to see if i notice any difference (sound wise), i guess it gave a bit more intake sound but the bad thing about it was my filter was really filthy(doh!) when i had changed it recently.. at least part of it was....

It's for silencing goes down to a plastic milk carton thing.

Mike I'd give your dealer a jingle, they may replace under warranty. Your car will still function OK, but from blindside's sounds like the air getting to the filter is dirtier than if it goes through the silencer, as well as slightly louder.

its not that its cleaner, its just that if you don't have that little silencer piece in there, dirt tend to get in easily through that side of your filter since it leaves a hole exposed.. i learned the hard way
