Dealer installed wrong brakes

Hey everyone, I just recently had my rotors resurfaced and new brake pads put on my G. I have a 2007 G35S, which I think has different brakes than a normal G35 (non-sport). I had this done last Thursday, and after riding a little bit on them I think they put the wrong pads on the rear. I seem to have a "rust" ring around my rotor on my rears (and my fronts don't have that). I have taken a cellphone picture (I can take a better picture if needed). Am I smoking something or did they use the wrong brake pad? The pad should cover almost the whole rotor am I correct? I'm sort of pissed because I know overpaid (mainly for the convenience of having a loaner etc...) and I figured they would do a good job. If anyone could let me know if this is normal or I should have them put new "S" pads on the rear. Thanks!~ Jack

I would take it back to the dealer and ask them. i dont think it should be doing that though. check your receipt. it should show the PN for the brake pads. have them cross it with the S-part number

I have the same thing from when my brakes were replaced...too busy to take it in...hmmm
I'm gonna go check the exact size of the ring on my rotors now.

Judging from the little i see of your caliper, i say you have the correct pads.

If they resurfaced the rotors, they may have gone in too far, so the portion that originally had the black paint to keep rust abay is gone. And since the pads don't reach that area, it eventually starts rusting.

bingo. that rust ring is normal after a resurface.

Ahh.. so it's the resurface that is throwing me off. Thanks I really appreciate it, because it saves me a trip to the dealer.

My general rule of thumb is to not let them turn the rotors unless it's way off spec.
I find most places turn rotors out of habit and that it's not really needed.

You should also make sure that you bed the pads properly as well when having the pads changed.

u should always do a resurface when doing brakes that way the new pads seat in with the rotor to reduce or eliminate any type of vibrations when braking. most of time when doing brakes you can get away with not opening up the lines by opening the master cylinder up when compressing the caliper so bleeding is more optional. most shops mic the rotors to see if .30 is available for turning not to see if they are warped.

we do lots of brake jobs a month and always resurface the rotors if they have enough on them.

Hmm ot sure about this, think the non-sport brakes have 12 inch rotors. while the Sport models have 13 inchers all around! So may be same pad material, but doubt the size etc..is the same for both models!

^^^ You're right! Somehow i was thinking of the G37 Coupe, where the Journey rotors are similar to the Sedan Sport.

aka "pad slap"

cheaper... but not a full brake job. most likely will pulsate...

It isnt possible to put non sport pads on. Pads are not interchangeable at all.

I'm pretty sure the non-sport pads won't fit the Sport caliper.
