At the risk of starting another "what is your miles per gallon" thread, I was wondering if anyone else rarely ever gets to take their G's on the highway?
My commute is about a mile and a half each way to work, and the gym is on the way home. I go 3 or more weeks between fill-ups, but usually just have around 200 miles on it when I run out of gas. My trip computer shows the average *always* in the high 14's to low 15's. Does anyone else that drives almost exclusively in the city have gas mileage that bad?
I have tried grannying it, and the difference is never noticed. (Might as well have fun then, right?) I blame it on the tire and wheel package. It's been doing this since I bought it new in July 2007 (I'm almost to 10k miles now!) Btw, I know the car has 306 hp, so it will tend to use more gas. This isn't technically a complaint as much as a curiosity
So is this common?
Thanks!

For your kind of driving, yes this is normal.
You're still lucky though.
I do 100 miles a day, mostly highway, and I have to fill up twice a week, at least.

I have seen over 20mpg 2 times in the 10 months I have owned my car, it was never more than 22-24. Once was driving to the bay area, the other was driving home from Tahoe.
I would say I average around 17-19 MPG, I drive 40 miles a day, most highway but some city. If I do all city I would say the average is around 12-14, maybe 15 if I am lucky/easy on the gas (yea right).

I see 24-27 on the highway (when I behave)
I guess my perspective is warped. I came from a BMW 325i (2003) with less than 200 hp to the G with over 100 more hp and way faster. A bad tank was when I didn't hit the 20's for MPG (with the same kind of driving). I guess you have to pay to play

I knew the G sucked on gas before I bought it.
I test drove one showing 13 mpg on the info screen.
I was a little worried, but it's been better than expected.
The answer to the OP's question is yes... city driving mileage sucks.

My wife can get much better mpg than I do. She works 3 buildings away from my workplace. So basically the same route.

I'm averaging about 17.5 mpg, all city in my day to day driving. Even during harder driving I don't think I ever seen it go below 15.
The only time I drove on the highway for a longer period of time is when I first got the car from the dealership 3 hours away and drove it back hom. I actually averaged between 27-28 mpg on that trip.

Not bad... Do you have the G35 S or the performance tire and wheel package? I test drove the Journey without the tire and wheel package and not only did it ride better and the road noise seem less, I'm wondering if it gets better MPG?

I mostly city drive but my MPG's are usually much, much higher than most people's simply due to my driving style. I don't go over 1/4 throttle most of the time and shift around 2k rpms, roll in 6th gear at 35 mph everywhere, etc.
As a result I end up with around 20-21 mpg city. 19 was the lowest I've had. Usually get around 24-25 highway.

I've been keeping pretty good track on the 2007 G35S i just picked up last month and:
first tank: 16.9
second tank: 12.9
Third and fourth: 23.4 and 24.0
The first two tanks are typical driving either mostly city or all city. The third and fourth are all highway trips, about 285 miles between fillups and the tank was still over a 1/4 full.
The 12.9 worries me a bit, but all the others are very acceptable.
