the new 7series got 3rd (last) in a luxo-barge comparison in Motor Trend. They agreed it was a rocket, but that the driving dynamics (most notably the throttle) were terrible. They commented how much distance there was between the 7 and the A8 and S550 (which won)

And what would you know? The 7 beat the S-class over at CD and was praised for its drivability. Oh well, at least they admit in their article that BMW always seems to win their comparisons.

I believe that. The guy in the BMW was bored as hell. So he used cruise controll. The other in the G was exited and run with others and got some fun. There you go. LOL

[QUOTE=popcornten;4269797]I'm gonna have to disagree with everyone saying the 328i is too weak for a "base" engine. That's exactly what it is, a "base" engine. If there was no G37 with 328 BASE horsepower the 328i would be right on point. Audi A4 base is 200hp. Lexus IS250 base has 200hp. Mercedes C-Class base has 228 hp. The NEW CTS base is 263 hp and the NEW acura base has 280 hp. So the base 3-series is right in there competitively with 230 hp, and a LOT less weight than the two cars that have more horsepower. QUOTE]

gotta agree with you on this one..

the g37 should be compared to the 335i which has 300hp not the 328, and it should be compared to the audi s4 (certainly more so than the a4, even though the price for the s4 is a bit high)with 340hp, the mercedes c350 with 268 hp, the lexus is350 with 306hp, and new acura tl 3.7l with 305hp (not the base 280hp which would be more comparable to the 328bmw). infiniti doesnt offer a lower range than the g37 so it cant fairly be compared to the other manufacturers that offer "base" models in terms of performance.

It can and should be compared and it will be a massacre for the lesser cars, no matter how any magazine tries to white wash the results, we all know who wins everytime.

the g37 is a higher level car than the base models listed above. it can be compared to the other manu's base cars and the higher level cars at the same time, but the reality is in terms of performance it would need to be compared against the higher level cars for a more even comparison.

Infiniti aka Nissan offers 2.5l engine in Japan. It would be good for this comparing.

I've had the pleassure of drivng both the G and a E90 BMW on the track and they are very, very similar. Both cars handle great, brakes are very good almost no fade and very adequate power. The only difference I felt between the two is the smoothness of the 3 series driveline. That thing is silky smooth. I liked the G better beacuse of tha bang for the buck factor and 'cause, here in PR there are a lot less G's on the road than 3 series BMW's...

Would i trade in my G for a E90??? No way ...unless is an M3 .

BTW Infiniti should make an M3 fighter...and a G25?27??? and price it under $30K, they'll sell a ton of them...

there is a G25..well actually Skyline 250GT in Japan...i would never get it though, thats like the Lexus IS250; way too slow. But yeah ive driven both the BMW and the Infiniti and the Bimmer feels more controlled and seems to have slightly higher limits as far as what i noticed (sports package for both) and the 335i is a monster but ive never driven the coupe so for now i would rather stick with my G..cant beat that sound

I have a partner in my firm (over 60) that drives hard and will only drive German cars, but he is the first to tell you that he will never drive a German car (especially a BMW) over 50,000 miles because it is TROUBLE.

Someone else at the firm bought a used M3 convertible with 70k miles and it has been amazing to see how often it is in the shop and how much it costs when it is there. I mean truly amazing.

I would expect the g is going to have an IS250 version of itself pretty soon. cause the 2010 upgrades are going to raise the price... the g35 to g37 change didn't justify a price increase cause the car needs and engine and vvel is the way they want to go. the 2010 g37 is going to have a ton more tech... I'd expect the base to go up 1k, and the packages to go up another 500 each.

but yeah C&D sucks bmw's nads. I mean a 328 is garbage to drive... I told the sales guy to kiss my *** tried to sell me a 328 cause he didn't have a 335 I wanted a year ago. the 330i sedan is pretty sad... it's a like a car w/ an identity crisis. but it does drive fairly well for a sport sedan. I couldn't imagine paying for one new tho.

Car and Driver has proven itself over the years to be biased towards BMW.

But of course they never keep them that long. Talk to folks that have had one for a long time. Funny they typically want to get into a Japanese luxury car after a few crazy repair bills.
