So I might be screwed...

Took the car into the dealer (local) for some warranty work and they are saying because the car was in an accident they won't warranty it. They are saying the previous accident could have possibly caused the issue. Basically the passenger window was rolling down slowly and up slowly. They said the front and rear bumpers have been repainted. When I bought the car the carfax had no report of accident history. It's a 2007 G35 with 17k miles. I purchased from the infiniti dealer in Oakland, CA and it was a CPO Infiniti and I have the elite warranty. I took it to my local dealership but the Oakland is 5 hrs away. Am I screwed???? What should I do...

They need to prove:

A) That it was in an accident
B) That said accident caused the issue

They can say it was in an accident all they want, but they have to prove it. It's customary sometimes for bumpers to be repainted if they're slightly damaged before resale.

The service guy said that the it's possible that said acciendent may have caused the mis-alignment in the passenger door window. To me that is BS, I said if that is the case then why was it not like that when I bought it. He proceeds to say that maybe it happened with time. I'm at a loss at this point...

Tell the local dealer to discuss it with the other dealer. They certified it.

That might be a really good option.

I missed that it was a certified pre-owned vehicle. Definitely use that as leverage.

if the dealer gives u one more go around, call infiniti corp.

THEY cerified, THEY said that the car was in good working order according to THEIR factory specs.

you got the warranty, and that will cover all pre existing conditions because they certified it

i wouldn't fight with the dealer too much, go above them and call corp. let them get yelled at by corp and go from there.

the dealers are privately owned, but they won't bight back at the ONLY hand that feeds them, IE Corp.

what is a really good option that usualy works 99% of the time is when you are with the service manager, and they are giving you static about some thing that they really should cover, offer to sit with him and call corp on his desk phone on speaker, tell him you want to get the issue resolved right away.

(watch him squirm a little of he knows he is wrong)

if he says no to that, call corp on ur cell right in his office as you are walking out, and go sit in the show room.

just stay calm and professional.

Thanks for your advice on this all of you. I'm waiting to hear back from them today, I have been very calm and collective and just asking questions, like "How do you resolve these situations where one dealer certifies the car and one dealer doesn't agree" I just get let's see what susan says when she calls the corp. I'll let you know how this turns out, but I'm pretty pissed about the whole thing.

Update - the dealer that I took it to is saying they will not cover it. I have called Infiniti consumer affairs to escalate the issue, I called the dealer where I purchased the car and they said they'd have no issue with it, if it's a failed part that's what I paid for under the warranty. What I don't understand is where is states a vehicle is no longer under warranty if it's involved in an accident. I don't know why they are pulling this BS wiht me.

Certain dealerships and their service managers will try to find any excuse not to warranty parts.
Once they realize you aren't some patsy (not saying are) that will believe anything they say they usually start playing fair.
As stated before they have to prove that the accident caused the problem.
If they cannot they are completely on the hook to fix your ride under warranty and should provide you with a loaner free of charge.

So far their excuse is they would have not CPO'd the car based on their findings. I'm going to wait to hear from the Infiniti regional specialist to get back to me. All I can say is I'm not happy.

Localbrew I'm so sorry for the hassles you are having. Its making my blood boil. Some people are just plain asswipes. They don't care about doing a good job they just care about the paycheck at the end of the week.

As far as your window operating slow I thought I had a problem like that with my rear passenger window. All it turned out to be is lack of lubrication. Why ? I dont know but since the lubed the vertical track the window rides in its been perfect and thats several months ago. Hope this helps. They used a spray lube. I think it was silicone based.

Mike, I'm curious... How do they know the front and rear bumpers have been painted? I certainly hope they're not going by color match, cause almost every single car on the lot has color match issues.

I hit a coyote a few winters ago while cranking down the highway and it cracked my front bumper cover. The new front bumper didn't match at all, and it took a year before I was able to convince them to repaint it. It's great now, but for that year, it drove me crazy. Their excuse for not doing the job again was that almost every brand new car on their lot had color matching issues as well.
Bumpers don't match easily. So, how are they determining that your bumpers were repainted?

Based on paint, orange peel, not color also fitment issues there are some gaps in some areas and alignment in the passenger front door. I'm not sure how a window motor that worked fine 1 1/2 months ago is now because of a previous accident that may or may not have happened.

LOL at Infiniti Corp. They do not want to help, at least that is what I have been told by a friend who tried to get them involved in an ongoing issue. Their answer...it is between you and the dealer we cannot help you.
