Yesterday, drove to Fresno and back. About 175 miles each way. Average speed, 80MPH. Average MPG (according to the computer), 29MPG!

I thought it was full of sh*t. So I reset the computer going home and had the same result.

I have to say, the VQ37VHR engine is excellent. i have not found a flat spot.

I spend about 90% of my driving on the highway, thus my justification for the clearbra. I have a LEAD foot. Even with my LEAD foot, my G35 6MT averaged 25MPG.

I am nearing 900 miles, I bought the car on 7/6/2009

if you do completely high way driving, and you're not accelerating the entire time you should be able to do 27-30 mpg HWY mpg

in town it's gonna be less unless you can cruise @ 45-50 the entire time.

my commute in stop and go traffic is about 17mpg
if i can cruise on the expressway @ 45-50 the entire time I get hit about 30mpg
hwy for me is a little different, I can probably avg anywhere from 27-31.
this is in a g37 7at w/ 900 miles

when I drive a g37 coupe manual can do about 25MPG hwy, 21 overall mixed driving in the OC

the g35 sedan averaged about 20 mpg mixed, my in town was like 16, highway the highest i could ever achieve was 26

the 7 speed runs the engine at very low rpm at highway speed right?

like below 2000 rpm?

thats pretty crazy. My 08'Gs gets like 15-16 in city drving with little to no acceleration. On the highway going 80 at like 3400 RPM its about 24-25 mpg im getting. That 7 speed really makes that big of a diff over 5AT i see...

i have an 07 6MT.

just hauled the family on a 200 mile trip mostly interstate and 65 mph secondary roads. with wife, baby in car seat and trunk and back seat full, averaged 26.5 mpg. cruised about 80 on the interstate and 70 on secondary roads. clear day, traffic moving good.

around town average 22.5 mixed city (small town) and hiway.

decent mileage is definitely doable. 7 speed should be even better.

that's the thing.

with the 7 speed, it should be below 3000 rpm at 80mph, saving gas

If I am remembering this right - 75mph is a shade under 2500rpm. I'll look again tmw.

I remember driving the '07 and '08 G35 cars as loaners. there was this funnky petal delay, then the car would jet forward like a bat out of hell. braking was also pretty annoying. I had to change my entire driving style. The 6MT of the same car was much better in terms of control. I am loving my G37, there is no funky throttle delay, and the brakes feel the same as my old 6MT. MPG is much better, in crap traffic I averaged 27mpg from Oakland to Gilroy going between 75 and 85mph.

The 07's you drove were they X o S? Cause i have an 08's 5AT. It does jerk a little being an S, also depending on your foot. My friend the XS and its much softer and easy going less eager to jump. I usually average going 80 like 25ish.

G35RJ- it wasn't a delay, really, Infiniti referred to it as a wave. You hold the accelerator in one spot, and the acceleration speeds up as you take off. I like it, to each his own.

All or nothing isn't a wave or "acceleration swell" IMO, I think that was a weird throttle setup. My CIO put it best (he had a '08 g35 loaner while his qx56 was in the shop) when he said "...I pressed the petal. Nothing, then it was like a scared cat !..."

bleh, moot point as i don't own a G35 or drive it daily. Just my impressions driving it.

After three tanks of gas, my real world G37 mileage is 27MPG and I am loving it!

That throttle jumpiness that you guys are referring to can be fixed with a TSB. Some people like it as it is, others prefer a more gradual increase in acceleration. I had the TSB applied to my '07 G35x, and I've driven the '09G35x with the 7 speed - they feel very, very similar. In fact, I felt that the G37's auto was a little slower in changing down gears in both D and DS modes - possibly because it's got a larger choice. I also found that when shifting with the paddles (I installed paddle shifters on mine aftermarket, and used the regular shifter on the G37 to manually shift) takes more work with the 7 spd if you want to overtake at highway speeds - which makes sense given that you have more gears to move through. The first 5 gears are almost identical in the two cars or feel that way at least, with gears 6 & 7 being mostly overdrive type gears to reduce fuel economy on the highway.

No question though that the mileage is much better in highway driving with the G37x, and the G37x feels smoother (ie. less NVH coming through) than the G35x. At the end of the day though, while I would get the G37 if I needed a new car today - or maybe wait for the '10 G37, I don't prefer it to the G35x other than in the fuel economy area. I also hope that they draw the line at 7 gears. I hear that BMW's auto boxes are moving to 8 spd from next year or the year after that. Doesn't sound like such a great idea unless you're driving a car like the Lexus IS F which has a 5 liter V8 with tons of HP.

My $0.02
