Finished DIY Black Headlights and Grille, what do you think?
Just finished up my DIY black-out headlights and grille on my Obsidian Black 2007 Sport 6MT. I took my time with this mod since I have an extra car to drive, spread it all out over 4 days. I used Krylon black primer, Krylon plastic gloss black, and Rust-oleum high gloss clear-coat. I did 4 coats of primer, 5 coats of paint, and 6 coats of clear on the headlights and grille. Couldn't be happier with the results. No stray dust or crud on any of the painted parts, no scratches or chips, and best of all IMO there's NO condensation in the headlight housings, yay! I actually finished this up about a week ago, and everything still looks great, no problems at all. Overall the project went perfectly except for the one casualty which is/was a parking lightbulb that I dropped and broke, but that's about the cheapest bulb I could've broken I suppose. Anyways, check out the before/after pics below, let me know what you think!

Thanks man!
well my intention was for it to be gloss, but it sort of turned out in between gloss and matte, it looks good though, matches some of the lower bumper grille stuff, I'm really happy with it. The headlights turned out much glossier.

Looks great man! I just did my grille myself this weekend and i used Duplicolor. It turned out pretty good except i wish it was more glossy. Maybe after some waxing in a couple days.. we'll see. I'll probably re-paint it if it starts chipping because i now know some mistakes i made. I wish i had the courage to paint my own headlights!

just go for it man! It took me a couple weeks to work up the nerve to tear apart the front-end of my car, but it is SO worth it in the end, just take your time and be careful and they'll turn out perfect!
Quick tip, when removing the chrome shroud for the parking light be extra careful, I broke one of the 4 clips on the left headlight shroud, luckily it still stays in just fine and isn't loose at all, but be careful. Also, grab a can of compressed air when you're buying your paint and sandpaper, I used the air between each coat of paint to spray off any dust/hair/spiders, worked great, good luck!
