just bought a 07 G35 sedan auto with 20k miles. the car is in like new condition. took the car in for some minor warranty service and had them print out a history report just for fun and noticed that at about 4k miles, the engine was replaced!!! anyone have any idea what the reason would have been??? it seems too early for any oil consumption problems and it is an automatic.

Very unusual....
If they give you a history report, they should be able to tell you what happened.

...anything else is just a guessing game.

Could have been about anything. But in any case, the car runs fine now I assume and is still under warranty. I would not worry about it.

there were a couple of check engine lights after the replacement, one from a wrong harness and one for a sensor of some sort and also the engine was running hot due to a bubble in the cooling system. the last of those was about 10k miles ago so hopefully its troubles are behind it. the notes regarding the engine replacement basically said, engine replaced and the bad engine returned to infiniti, nothing else. yes it's still under warranty but frequent visits to the dealer would not be my idea of a good time.

on the bright side, the car is awesome!

I would not worry about it in terms of thinking you got a lemon or anything. No matter how good engineering and manufacturing become there is still a possibility of a bad engine being installed in a car. Just be glad it is already replaced. Dont we have like a 6yr 70k powertrain warranty?

Were there any mods? I have seen engines die from the cold air intake sucking in water durring a rain storm. Was there a crash on the Carfax?
