Trading my G?? Someone talk some sense into me!
Trading my G?? Someone talk some sense into me!
I've got the 09 G37xS Sedan. Before buying this car. MY VERY CLOSE 2nd choice was an 08(at the time) Mitsubishi Evolution X(10)
Working at an inifiniti dealership gave me the car basically slightly above cost and 1% less whatever financing deal was available at the time.
At the time the evolution was too expensive for me, basically $4000CND more(BEFORE my cost discount). At the time i also didn't see any value in that car, not like the G
A 2008 used evolution x has come up for sale now locally. I've appraised my car, and the dealer is offering a straight trade.
Am i nuts for being Really tempted by this?? I've always been a die-hard nissan fan, i've owned an altima, S14 and 350z.
And i totally Love the G, it's 9/10 amazing at everything it does. The Evo is more of a one-trick pony, but i guess a part of me hasn't grown up, and still wants a pure peformance car.
I realize in the long term the G will retain it's value better and last longer.
Here's a link to the actual evo being sold

Any advice would be appreciated!
i've added some pics of MY car just for the heck of it.

Hope you have an extensive array of tools, and a nice warm garage.
Also a Very reliable second car will come in handy.
As an ex-DSM freak , I love the the EVO, but dont have the time to to keep one running properly.
Good luck with your decision !! The STI is a lot more user friendly !!

hey man if it's a straight trade make sure it actually is a straight trade. like 0 money out of pocket and make sure they pay any associated fees.
39980... that's like what 36k USD? given you probably paid 36 USDOTD for the g it doesn't get any more even than that. being where you are, it's def not a bad deal. shoot... Evos hold their value pretty well too shoot MSRP is 38, invoice is 36k USD. it didn't lose any money over here... ha ha
my policy is: you wouldn't be looking unless you already wanted to do it. but your car is sweet man... damn it ok time to lower my car.
did you paint the rear? it's black! looks like a rear defuser.

Hmm, very helpful comments guys..
Jerry C - I knew sti's were more reliable than evo's..but i didn't think they were THAT bad..that's a scary thought. I like STi's mechanically, but comparing 08 to 08, the new sti hatchback bodystyle is a turn-off for me. Basically a mazda 3 on steroids.
mw08G35S- The pricing here for evo's doesn't coincide with USprices. That particular evo here MR + premium package Goes for just over $51,000 CND.
So HERE, it's depreciated about $10,000 already. More than my G has for sure. My G retails for about $46,800 something. I paid $43,000 with my "dealer" discount.
It's hard to say how an evo will depciate, on the negative mitsubishi's aren't known for resale value, but at the same time, the evo is rare enough that anything goes.
Oh my lower rear is Just a vinyl. Just a temporary thing until i decide on what diffuser to get.
Thanks for the comments about my car guys, despite my thought of trading i still love my G

wow I didn't even realize the Evo was that expensive over there...
ah cool, the vinyl gives it a nice touch. a diffuser will make it look real nice.
but yeah it comes down to what makes you happy. just remember, you said the evo was second! lol even a close second, is still second =P, plus the car is two years old now...

I havent been in the Evo in awhile. I did test drive the first gen that came state side, and even though it was a rocket I couldnt live with its hard ride for a DD. I wound up getting an STi then and I was pretty happy with it. Thats was before I had kids, now I got a couple I wound up getting the G. So if you are happy with the EvoX for a DD and you want to have that level of performance for a bit and the G is not enough I'd say go for it. THe G is fast enough for any reason on the street for me, if you get the Evo take it to the track to really get the most out of it. That is one regret I have; not tracking the Suby.
Gluck

I think you should take it for a weekend test. If you like it take it if you don't leave it. I am not to big fan of the Evo. Like the performance but the look is well not as pretty. Do whatever makes you happy.
Good luck.
Good luck.
Bottom line, both cars are hot.
The G however has class and luxury, representing a higher end car that is recognized as higher end. It also hauls ***.
A Mitsu Evo is still nice, but does not convey the same class and luxury as the G does. It conveys performance. It wont be recognized by all as classy or even high end (as the regular model lancer brings it's status down). If performance is the ONLY thing you care for, then i'd say yes, go with the EVO.

Coryuyede - Your car looks sweet... I'd find it difficult to say goodbye to that.
I sure wouldn't make the change, but I totally relate to what you're going through.
...same thing happened to me with my 1st G after I drove a Z4M one day.
I'm now back in a G.

i can understand your hesitation !
both are nice cars, but i believe that evo X is way fun n sporty ride .
ummm . . if you are not into luxuriousness, or at least not interested to, then u may trade it over the X . .
you kno what . . if it's possible, take the evo for a test drive then you decide urself !
sorry bro . . can't vote here, don't wanna ruin the results !

I acutally owned both. I had an rally red 08 evo x. All I did was have problems with it. Alot of lagging and never ran right. I actually traded my evox for my current 07 coupe. Now they are nice cars don't get me wrong. If you are financially ok with cash then go for it. If balling on a budget. I won't get it. G rides nicer :0)
