Front Grill

So a buddy and I want to make the stock grill a flat black and the chrome pieces around the car flat black (chrome on the trunk and around the windows). We were wondering what the steps are to making it this way. I don't want to go to a body shop because I don't trust people in my area. When I got my window tinted the *** ***** ran my car into the ground and it pissed me off. So please include steps, materials, other posts regarding this.

Thanks,
Chris

Here you go Chris

Just give it a search next time there is almost always a DIY on everything or at least the most popular items.

Thank you Greekboy115 and Csquared

Also do I do the same with the chrome pieces around my car? Use painters tape and wrap my whole car in paper and just sand it down and spray paint it? or do I pop the chrome pieces off? (reason being is I saw an older post of our car with 22's in japan, fully blacked out, chrome grill, rimes, springs interior it was sick looking)

I looked into doing that, First of all you can pop the Chrome pieces out, Some people were looking into powdercoating them but you can't because the plastic bits holding the pieces in would melt. I'm sure you can try to Sand down and spray paint but good luck as the paint doenst' hold that well, so you'll probably be looking at chipping down the road. let us know how it goes. Or take them out and see if you can get a body shop to paint it properly.

There are paints out there for plastic that do not need primer. This worked pretty good on my grill and may work out for the window trim you are looking at as well.

I have had mine on for about 3 or 5 months, I got a couple of chips. i think it is inevitable, perhaps an epoxy like G2 for brake calipers would not chip, but that is glossy and not the finish the OP is looking for, plus with its thicker coating some of the shape of the grill may be lost. I plan on painting mine again to cover the small chips I have over the winter should take a couple of hours to prep and spray again.

I have never had any chips on my stock grill like most people have, but then again I only drive it maybe 2-3 times a week but go 80 Miles a day for school total round trip. So meh...Some of us are lucky and some aren't?

Seems like there was a time period where the grills were prone to chipping, sounds like you are one of the lucky ones. Although Infiniti replaced my chipped grill under warranty and gave me the original I used to paint black. So I got a new in box grill if I ever want to go back to stock.
