g35s and ice

I had to work Christmas eve until 10pm. While at work in Texas, we got a surprise snow storm. The roads were completely iced when I got off work. The drive home was unbelievably scary. I've driven on snow and ice plenty of times. The stock bridgestones were definetly not made for this type of driving. Fortunately, I made it home without wrecking.

Yeah, ice sucks.
Glad you made it home in one piece.

Glad you made it home...heard Dallas had a white Christmas. Up in KC we got part of the same storm, but it left us 9 inches of snow with up to 5' drifts due to the crazy winds. Just further up north in Nebraska and Iowa it was even worse!

Yeah the storm was really bad. I didn't even bother trying on the stock RE050's.

The last time I tried with just a light dusting, I got out of the driveway, and then couldn't even get up the slight inline in the street to get out of the neighborhood. I tried to return to the garage and couldn't even get back IN the driveway. I had to park it on the street.

Thankfully we have the CX-7 as our winter work horse. It sucks to be stuck at home though while the wife is at work. It just snowed again last night and I'm here with cabin fever.

yeah. i imagine for you guys down south not used to this type of weather it would suck. For those of us up in the north, winter tires are a must. Roads in MN have been pretty much ice and snow covered for the past week or so now and I'm having zero problems with my G35S .

Yes! G35 sucks on the snow/ice. I am very proud of myself for not wrecking my G. I used to drive Mitsubishi Diamante and I never had any issues driving on the snow.
I got really frustrated about not being able to drive without having a heart attack so I bought a set of Bridgestone snow tires (Blizzak). They work great. I can actually stop now!!

I used to own the '05 coupe for 2 years. I didn't have a single problem with snow and we got plenty of snow here in PA.

I think the problem I had was that my G35 has the Bridgestone Potenza tires. They came with the car, and they are summer tires. I almost slid off the highway into a ditch while doing 20 mph. The car recovered at the last moment. The next set of tires I get will be all-season.

Yeb, I don't think it's safe to drive w/ summer tires all year year round in TX unless you have a spare car for those icy days.

Potenza's are definitely no good on snow and ice. I have winter wheels and tires (Blizzacks) which work great in winter conditions.

Yesterday we had a sudden snow storm in NYC. I have an X. Even in snow mode the wheels were slipping. The roads were really slick and the snow was sticking fast. I coudlnt believe how much it was sliding and slipping. I was slightly fishtailing. Pulling out from a stop the slip light kept coming on-with only a little bit of throttle. Im actually disapointed in the X all wheel drive capability. The extra weight and money should at least deliver comfortable, worry-free snow driving.

^ I decided to save the weight and money of X and just get a set of snow wheels and tires instead. Plus I really wanted manual trans. Manual trans helps me in snow too. I have much more control over feeding power to rear wheels. I don't have the constant push fwd of an automatic.

To be fair, in snow, I have seen a G35X blow right by me out of a light. From acceleration stand point, I can't compete with AWD! :O

I think you may be the first person on this forum, I have read, that is complaining about the X's capability in snow. Get some snow tires. This is my third winter with this car and it is every bit as good, in snow and ice, as the two SUV's I have had in the past. (as long as the snow is now more than ~6" deep )
