key fob in trunk

first, let me caveat by saying i know i am stupid

had my key fob in my gym bag, and was throwing it into the trunk (opening the trunk via the silver button). many times before, i have driven my car like this with the key fob in the trunk as i guess its considered "inside".

however...i did not unlock my car doors on this occassion and did not realize this until i slammed my trunk down. i was under the false impression that i would be easily able to open the trunk via the silver button again, since the key fob is in close contact...but no dice. i didnt think it was possible, but i locked myself out of my g, with the key fob inside....

what made it even worse is that after trying unlock the doors on the driver and passenger side with the button on the handle, i peered in and the dashboard teases you with the push start button graphic as though you are inside the car...

I was under the impression you can't do that. The guy who sold me his car showed me that feature actually. Had the key fob, threw it in the trunk and closed the trunk...the trunk wouldn't close.

I did the exact same thing!!! Key fob in gym bag, threw gym back in trunk and slammed it before I knew it. Glad to know I'm not the only one LOL!

When I picked up my car on Sat, the salesman demonstrated how a locked key in the trunk will result in the trunk popping back open to prevent this. I just looked in the manual and on page 3-11, our cars have "lockout protection" for this type of scenario.

This is for an 08 so not sure if it is the same for a 07.

Well recently we had a little discussion here about this. So I went to the dealer and told them it doesn't work. They told me it is only for the coupes. They even showed me some kind of paperwork from infiniti showing the range and all this. I have to check the manual to see if it is true or not. Glad I never locked my keys in the trunk. Would been pissed.

As I said, I've seen it work on the Sedan. Unless it was some crazy david copperfield illusion the guy was pulling on me.

LOL I don't think the guy would sell cars if he can copy Copperfield. LOL

I thought I saw that on my 07 also but when we were talking about it few weeks ago I tried it on my 08 and I can lock the fob in every time.

Not really a big deal I actually thought about it and it kind of makes sense. When I go to the beach I used to leave my key at the local variety store and park the car behind there store. Give the guy $ 5-10. I did not want to take the fob and leave it out when we are in the water. But in this case I can just take the actual key out and throw the fob in the trunk and carry the key with me in the water.

Never locked my keys in so it doesn't seem to be an issue with me.

I just flipped the manual as it was posted at 3-11 and sure it says we have that feature. However the picture show a coupe. Go figure. Maybe just a misprint and missing the only for coupes as sometimes it says.

Ok just called Infiniti Canada. It was superfast. No waiting nothing. I actually impressed. Wow. Anyways talked to a rep quickly and he says the manual is right and advised me to take the car to the dealer. Sooooo do I really want to fight over this? Well maybe when I go in next time I'll ask them. I know what the answer is going to be. "It is for coupes"

Anybody is up for service soon? I had mine few weeks ago.

^ they (your dealer) are wrong. You should not have to fight with your dealer. You told Infiniti Canada so they should get in touch with the dealer and the dealer should call you with an apology and a time when they will properly address the problem.
I can NOT lock my fob in my trunk. The car beeps and the trunks pops open. Everytime!
The only thing I can think of is the OP had the fob in side a gym bag so the car did not pick up the signal. That with a somewhat rundown battery could be the only reason I can think why the trunk remained closed.
If you want to test yours, take the key out of the fob, lock the doors and throw the fob in the trunk and close it. See what happens.

In previous discussions on this topic,
the other possibility raised was localized electrical interference.
