2008 G35 Journey Sedan no sunroof
I was at a stoplight today with my foot on the brake and trans in Drive and pushed the start button once to see what would happen. The car shut off and gave a warning message to shift the trans to Park.

There must a certain speed threshold where shutting the car requires 3 button presses instead of one.

I think we can expect a lot more ugly orange and yellow warning banners on the visors (or more obvious places) on all cars in the future -- including throttle and braking issues in addition to airbag stuff.

If this ever happens to you just toss the gear into neutral. I think it's a lot faster than pressing the button 3x =/

i still don't understand how you can crash in a car with a stuck accelerator. One of the stories I read involved a guy driving his Toyota/Lexus for quite a distance with the accelerator stuck until he crashed. Just shift the damn gear to neutral!

i think i remember that one. a guy with three other people in the camry were screaming down a california freeway and ended up flying off the end of an offramp and damn near exploding. all of them died or most of them. thats when they blamed the floormats. start of coverup in the public eye. before that they were changing the scope of the NHTSA investigations to exclude 85% of incidents like this. so lame.

I worked for a Nissan Manufacturing plant for six years up until april of last year when i accepted a buyout offer. For the last year I was there, toyota was strictly going after GM to become the worlds largest automaker. after seeing these problems arise, its obvious they did everything they could to keep it under wraps so they could achieve dominance in the automotive world. good job toyota, you killed people to be on top.

Also, i still believe its an engineering flaw in the actual electronics, not a grabbing issue of the plastics. either they were dumb enough to allow it to send the full voltage out of the pedal when it shorts out, or the position sensor on the pedal is the part getting stuck. if its not in the pedal, there is a serious programming issue in the ecu thats interpreting full load under some type of condition.

AFter the Toyota fiasco;
I would think ALL mfgs should be jumping on this to make sure they don't also have a problem.

I totally agree with you on that. Also would love to se go back a little with all these tech. Like Drive By Wire and learning ECU. Just give me a switch with 5 maps and I pcik on my own. I don't like when the car picks from my driving style before. Just because I drive like Nanny to the track that doesn't mean I ould like to drive it at the track that way.
