Uneven Trunk

I have an 08 G35X and need to know how to adjust the little rubber feet on the trunk lid.

My trunk lid is closing a bit low so the right inside corner of the trunk lid right next to the reflector is hitting the top left corner of my right rear tail light, and chipping the paint.

I would get the dealer to fix it and get them to fix the paint. All under warranty.

I'm just afraid they'll say the entire trunk has to be repainted.

Resale/trade-in issues/questions if it comes up. Also, I'll take a factory paint job over a dealer paint job anyday..

Keep the receipts and get them to write why it was done on the papers. Avoids any problems.

Still doesn't address the concern I have of the dealer paint job not being as good as a factory job, IMO.

If the paint is chipping due to an assembly mistake such as your mis-aligned trunk then you need to have Infiniti address it. It's not your fault or problem. This is exactly why we have warranties. If you get surface rust as a result then you may have a real battle on your hands getting it fixed under warranty.
Would you rather put touch-up paint on the chip (which will look horrible) or have it done right?

I took another look at the trunk. It doesn't appear as mis-aligned as I thought.

It appears as though the entire issue stems from the right rear tail-light not be fitted properly. Wondering if it's a pain to remove and put back in place. Looking at the shop manual, doesn't look too difficult. However, the shop manual mentions that the fuse must be removed or the negative terminal must be disconnected first..

Anyone do that before without removing the fuse or disconnecting the negative terminal?

as others have said take it to the dealer. There's no need of messing around with something defective from the factory.

Well, it's an '08. It's a 2-3 years old car...why is it the assembly mistake now and not 2 years ago?

Well, I was trying to resolve the small chip, which is roughly 2 mm wide by 5mm long on my own. I've had success getting minor paint damage fixed on my own on my other cars in the past and didn't want the entire trunk repainted. However, the problem kept coming back so I took a detailed look at it and had to think things through.

Thought it was a trunk alignment issue initially. Even brought it to a dealer close to me and the service adviser said to "close the trunk gently"... Kind of rolled my eyes on that.. Now looking at it the entire right rear of the car and feeling around the tail light, all the panels line up. The only thing that appears to be out of alignment is the right rear tail light. There is a gap between the bottom of the tail light and the bumper whereas the left tail light is snug up against the bumper at the bottom. Also, protruding just a millimeter or 2 beyond the reflector on the trunk lid whereas the left rear is flush.

I'll post some pics later on.. Might bring it to the dealer to see if they can remove and put the light back in, hopefully fixing the issue.

I am aware the car is an '08 but I don't understand your point. Who said it was an assembly mistake now and wasn't an assembly mistake 2 years ago?

An assembly mistake happens at the plant when the car is manufactured. The problem has just been noticed and the car has a 4 year comprehensive warranty. Therefore I suggested having the defect corrected by the dealer under warranty rather than playing around with it and risking damage by the owner.

A self fix may ultimately be an option if the issue is not determined to be a defect by the dealer, and it still bothers the OP.

My point is "don't be surprised if the dealer says no". You should address something like this right away. You shouldn't wait 2 years and ask the dealer to fix it. How do they know if it's an assembly mistake or if something happens to the car during the last 2 years?
