Steam from Engine Bay

I just bought my '08 on Saturday from CarMax with 29600 miles. Everything has been sweet; I am already in love with this car.

This morning it rained for the first time since I bought it. A heavy, heavy rain. I had been sitting in traffic for an hour and when I got to the parking lot at work I drove through a ton of standing water. I parked the car, turned it off, and noticed smoke coming from the hood. My oil temperature gauge was spot on on the middle, and no other warning lights were on. I got out of my car and after a minute or so it had tapered off to nothing.

Was this simply the cool rain evaporating? I don't know why the engine would be smoking already for no reason. It wasn't blue or black, but white in color.

Help!

It just seemed unusually heavy. I guess I'm being overly cautious because its new (to me). Even someone on the dock said 'something is wrong with your car, its smoking!' lol

^+1 it seems to happen when it rains sometimes, not enough shielding in the front i guess to keep the water form getting through but no big deal really.

Ok thanks for easing my worries. I don't mean to be a pansy about something so small, I just worry as if it were my first born. I am so stoked to be the owner of an Infiniti.

don't worry that's normal. Happened to a couple guys here a year or two ago and it was just water steam after all.

Yeah, it's just steam. It happens to mine (sometimes) when I am coming out of the drive through 'touchless' car wash. It sprays the underbody and gets into the engine bay a little. I only use them in the winter.
No worries

It's completely normal for smoke to come out of the engine bay when it's raining or your driving through standing water.

I just don't want some guys lurking in the forum to stumble on this thread and begin to think that G35 engines start to smoke when it rains. Oh the rumours that would hit the internet, about our beautiful G's. You can edit the title (hint)

^ You've seen my G Ian. She shines better today than the day I brought her home.
