They probably won't burst into flames, just stop working effectively with high heat. But as you said, no biggie with re-applications.

All cars get the rust, on the G they withstand it for longer since the OEM rotors are painted from the factory. Usually, when the rotors are turned, the unswept areas are ground as well so the rust starts showing through afterwards.
