Adaptive Headlight Bulb change
OK, first post here so please go easy. I searched the TECH threads and forum threads and found the Headlight Bulb Change thread, but it didnt refer to the AFS system. I have a 2007 G35S with the tech package, and now at 93K my driver side light is out. Do I have to go to the dealer and get a$$raped or can I do this myself? If its as easy, considering the location of the bulb access, as in the one thread I can handle that? Thoughts?
On a second topic, I havent made any mods to it, but it may be time to start and if im changing a headlight bulb I might as well upgrade while im in there right? Thoughts or suggestions on bulbs?
Thanks to any and all helpful suggestions, lots of info here and seems like good people too!

A quick check on the FSM shows that there's no difference in the procedure for replacing the bulb on AFS and non-AFS equipped G's. So, you should be good to go with that DIY. It does recommend re-aiming if possible.
This is where it gets sketchy, some say adjusting the ***** will be enough, others suggest having the dealer adjust using a CONSULT (because of the auto-leveling feature).
Although, if you ask me, if you just go in and replace the bulb without disturbing the housing, you shouldn't need adjusting at all.
Bulb-wise, the OEM bulbs are 4300k, but after a while it color-shifts and stabilizes at 5000k. If you use your lights a lot, the 5000k may be your best bet, better yet just replace both bulbs.

^ like he said but when i installed mine i moved the housing all around as i have the afs too and it made it easier to change the bulb by moving the shroud around, when i turned the car on the lights readjusted automatically in seconds. And i would also recommend getting 6k.
Well how can i determine if its the ballast? This all happened after my GF left the headlights on after turning the car off. Not sure if the drain, which killed the battery, somehow affected the headlight?
Well, if you stick another bulb in there, and it doesn't light, it is probably your ballast. I would also check fuses but I don't think there is a separate fuse for L and R. Ballast replacement is a little involved as it requires removing the headlight.
be careful when installing new bulbs. When I had mine replaced, it was throwing an AFS error on the dash because the bulb wasn't 100% secured. It was working fine until I made left turns and it tried to turn left and caught the error. In case that error comes up, check that out.
I agree with the above posts, 6k only!

A color-shifted 4300k will be a noticeable mismatch to the 6000k.
Thanks for the input so far from all!! Great board!!
Wasnt as bad as i thought it would be to change, but irritating that it still doesnt work. I noticed it seems something is loose somewhere as when i turn the lights on the lights on the driver side headlight dont always light up. I have to bump it and the other lights, minus the headlight, come on. Loose wiring somewhere? Thanks again for the help, you guys/gals rock!!!
