Nav Update Question

I just picked my car up from the dealer after I had them install my Nav update. I bought the update online and got my code, and paid my dealer fee for them to install it. When I picked up my car, I went into "Info" - "Navigation Version" and it still said 2007-2008 Version.

I asked the dealer and they said that the Navigation Version screen doesn't update, but the Nav update went through and they showed me all the codes on their end that it went through.

If they are incorrect, can someone take a quick picture of their navigation version showing 2010 so that I can show them? If they are correct, can someone tell me how I can find my "real" navigation version to make sure the update is installed?

I can take a picture of mine when i get home, but the screen definitely does change.

Mine used to say 06-07. Then they updated it wrong (they hadn't updated their own system yet) and it said 07-08. But I brought it back in and the correct version has been installed and the screen reflects that.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need any other picture. My car is a 2008 g35 it just had the nav. updated. Used to say 07-08 year something like that. Now it says 09-10 year. Off topic, I am biting my tongue not saying anything bad about dealers .

Awesome, thanks a ton. I knew something was entirely wrong with their explanation. The service tech who helped me out also thought something was wrong, but the service manager was the one who says it always stays as "07-08" update. Can't wait for this conversation.

Thanks for the picture. I brought itto the service department today who still insisted that I was wrong. They said that the car in the picture had an optional "hard drive upgrade" which shows the 09-10 map version. I informed them that is complete BS.

After some talking in the back room, they came back and asked me to leave my car. Let's see if this gets taken care of once and for all. I'm getting really frustrated with this entire situation.

uhhh...what is a "hard drive upgrade"? Do you get more memory or something?

All I did was pay for a map upgrade and mine changed (twice at that). Who knows, they could just go in with a keyboard and type in whatever they want, but the screen can and does change.

Just got off the phone with the dealership, and they promised me the 2009-2010 nav update is installed on my car, but the screen still shows 2007-2008. They said they called the Nav company, had their head techs do the install, re-installed it numberous times.

I wish I could search for a 2010 POI (or any other search) that wasn't on the 07-08 version that can prove if they really updated my nav or not.

What can I do here? I don't want to take it to another dealer and pay an extra service charge to have it done right. Any ideas who I can contact or what to do to get this resolved? I'm at a loss.

Do you know of anything in particular that should be added with the nav update, like a particular road or POI?

If so, see if it's in your system now? Did they give an explanation as to why all of our screens changed, but not yours. If anything, that right there says there's a problem the dealer should fix. Why does your screen not update?

I'm thinking the town of West Paterson NJ changed to Woodland Park NJ on 1/1/2009. I'll search by town and see which comes up. If you are near your car today, can you see if your 09-10 version has either a Woodland Park NJ or West Paterson NJ?

I can't tell you how furious I am over this situation. I also asked the service department what nav version do other 2008 G35's say after updating. He responded with, "we've never checked before." Just awesome.

I think I checked the G's currently in the showroom to see what they said.

Anyways, I'll check the west paterson thing when I get to my car?

The one I do remember changing from when they updated mine to 08-09 and then to 09-10 was a POI place called Inman Perk in the SE region.

If you get a sec, look that one up....what are the options it gives. I know the locations changed between the versions.

no way. how do you have a 2010 map when it reads 2008.

i would flip so much !@#$% on them. a 40k car and a 200$ update and it cant seem to read the correct year. id have them tear out the entire console and get a ....correct working one.......because apparently yours isnt.

So here is my update. Went to the dealer and spoke to both the service manager and another service tech who overheard our conversation. The service manager insisted that everything was done right (showing me codes they entered which doesn't mean anything to me since I don't know the computing system they use there), and then the service tech walks over and tells the manager he is wrong, and tells him that they didn't update something correctly. The tech had this problem with one of his customers recently and knew that I was 100% correct. I'm so thankful that this tech was there, knowledgeable, and actually spoke up and corrected the service manager.

The manager said he was going to make some calls and get back to me later today (not sure what he has to call about since the tech told him how to fix it). Either way, I was glad that someone finally understood that the dealership was wrong. So I took the car and I'm waiting for them to call me back with a fix.

Rutland:
I checked the Inman Perk POI, and this is what came up. Let me know what you think:
Inman Perk Coffee
5866 Sprout Springs Rd
Flowery Branch, GA
770-965-6065

Kid4now:
I called Navteq yesterday. After my 15 minute conversation, they first told me that the maps should say 09-10, yet after talking for another 10 minutes, the rep just wanted to get off the phone and followed with "well if the dealer said they did it right, I'm sure they did." Navteq could care less unfortuately.

Updating this incase anyone else has this issue in the future.

Dropped the car off again today for more work after one of the techs was sure he knew what the problem was. After a day of testing, they still can't get it to update, they called some high up service people and finally got word that there is something funky going on with my Hard Drive. They are ordering me a new one and replacing the HDD unit to get this to work right for me. I'm glad they are stepping up and making this right. I'll post back if the HDD unit does in fact fix the problem.
