Hi guys Im new to this site, and Im been doing alot of reading about my 07 G35 sedan I recently bought. I haven't been able to find much info on a problem that Ive had since I drove the car home. The gas pedal seems very stiff and not very smooth at all. Its really noticeable at takeoff from a stop sign or intersection. I can push it past the stiff point but then the car accelerates forward. I spoke to the dealership about it and they told me "thats how these cars are,you have to get used to the gas pedal". Well ive had the car for 6 months now and Im not used to it yet! So my question is, has anyone heard of this? Is there anyway to fix the problem?(differant spring, lube, new gas pedal?) Thanks for any input

 

I think you're talking about the throttle sensitivity, it's that way out of the box. There's a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) that takes care of it. It softens the throttle response, some drivers don't like it though. If you can't get used to the sensitive throttle take it to the dealer and have the TSB performed. I had it performed and liked the smoother throttle tip in, but everyone's different. It sounds like you're not liking it so I'd suggest you get it done. BTW, welcome to the site!

 

Or if it still "pushes" hard,, then there maybe a lot of dirt or debris at the pivet point (bottom) of pedal assembly otherwise, yes these cars have VERY precise throttles, and quick throttle responce....

Thanks for the input everyone! So is the sensitivity already increased on my car now, and the TSB makes it less sensitve & smoother? or vice versa? The TSB makes it sound like the procedure increases sensitivity. Is the TSB a program they install? Sorry for all the questions,Im just tryin to uderstand these cars a little! When you go in for the TSB, it smooths out the throttle and makes it less sensitive than what it is now. TSB stands for technical service bulletin. Car companies issue these bulletins so consumers know the known problems with their cars that they could get fixed, if possible, free of charge.

 

Yep Dirtdog, your G came out of the factory w/ the throttle tip-in at max sensitivity. If you can't get used to it just do what rpm&my_g35 suggested. Priniting out the TSB & taking it w/ you will avoid any questions by the service guy. They can also look up your service log in case the TSB has already been performed. It does sound like your G is still in it's initial state though. The post TSB G is definately more civilized and easier to get going from a dead stop, it also smooths out the cruise control too, much less intrusive in that regard. The pre-TSB G is a bit "snappier" off the line though so you might miss that.

 

It took me a while to get used to the throttle pedal also. My understanding is that most cars have a gas pedal that "hangs", whereas the G has one that pivots on the floor and that sometimes calls for some getting used to. Also, if I'm not wrong, the TSB for the gas pedal is *not* reversible, so make sure that's what you want done.

Thanks for all the input everyone! I printed the TSB and I will take it with me this week to the dealership. I drove the car yesterday and tied to really pay attention to what was bothering me. I looked at the gas pedal assembly real close also. I think my problem might be more mechanical than a programing issue. The pedal itself is very resistive, almost like the spring inside is to strong. Even when pushing it with my hand it feels very stiff, but snaps back up quickly. Is there any way to take it apart and change out the spring to a lighter one? I know that sounds scary,messing with the gas pedal,but I do not feel comfortable driving my car like this. Any other ideas to try?

 

It doesn't sound like programming to me either. The throttle is very sensitive but "stiff pedal" isn't close to what I'd call it. If I were you, I'd bring it to the dealer and try some of their loaners or the showroom car. The throttle pedal is not hard to press and is very smooth. Something is mechanically wrong with yours.

 

You can have my throttle sensitivity when you pry it from my cold dead hands.

This doesn't sound the same though. My pedal is easy to engage.
Avoid the TSB until you drive another G with it applied (Test drive an 08)
I'm not a big fan of the change... you may be but once it's applied, there's no getting it back out again, so be sure.

 

Got the car back yesterday from dealership. Got a bunch of stuff fixed and serviced. Infininti Customer service is great! New AC compressor,new lower exterior window moldings and no hassel! They told me that the gas pedal is in perfect working order and put a little lube on the pivot and the slider. Its a little better but not as smooth as the 09 G37 loaner car gas pedal. So I guess Ill have to live with it. Maybe I will do the TSB in the future. Thanks everyone for your input!
