I have noticed that my A/C whines pretty loud. I have taken it in to the dealership before and they said they listened to the compressor with a scope but didn't hear anything.

But when I switch off the A/C the cabin of the car become significantly quieter. Unfortunately, with 100+ days, turning it off for more that 10 seconds doesn't make sense.

Is this just something common with this car, or should I take it somewhere else?

 

It's pretty common. Been like this since the 07 model. I remember some people got their compressors replaced under warranty but I don't know if that fixed the issue. With mine it's not always loud but more like often.
Personally though I'd rather have it be a bit loud and work really good than quiet like my friend's bimmer but burn up inside the cabin.

Yeah i noticed the same thing. My A/C fan seems to make a slight high pitched whistle sound as if there is a flaw in the ducting. Its as if the fan is loud, or there is a piece of plastic disrupting the air flow and making noise.

Either way its noticeable, and annoying. But just turn the Radio up more.

At least you dont have the rattle and pops that I hear other luxury cars have these days.

 

Mine had a very loud annoying whine early on in its life. I brought it in, they replaced the compressor and it has been trouble-free (and relatively quieter) since. *knock on wood*

 

Mine was very annoying and embarrassingly loud, thought the dealer would ignore my complaint but they replaced the compressor no problem. One year later and it is back to being just as loud, if not louder. Wish I could ignore it but it sounds like utter garbage.

 

I have an appointment on Monday because my a/c is rather loud aswell. I've done the turn up radio deal to drown it out but I just don't think it should be that loud. If nothing is mechanically wrong then fine but I do want them to take a look at it. I had a 10yrs GSR with a quiet system, why can't the G be just as quiet if not quieter? We'll see what they tell me Monday. Probably to turn the stereo up!

 

You know I never find the need to increase my fan speed over 3 points, maybe it's because i'm usually alone.

So far I don't have any complaints about my AC but then again I'm very **** when it comes to looking after it

 

it is pretty loud, good friend of mine has an 09 g37xs and his is silent? WTFF

 

Then again my G is four years old and I may be expecting perfection. It blows very cold, but it doesn't hurt to get it checked before I hit 60k on the ticker.

 

Just got the G back from the dealership and they replaced the compressor. Haven't turned my stereo down yet to see if its quieter but I'm happy to have a new one.

 

try switching to the recirculate mode instead of fresh air... that should cut down on some noise.

 

That might help but it's not much of a cure to a factory "defect" I guess you could call it.
