Gone to the "Darkside" BMW
#16
Here is what I found googling the subject. I also heard it was early production 2007s and it significantly dropped off in the 08-09 model year.
"Dear Valued Customer,
BMW is committed to delivering the ultimate in product satisfaction to you, our
customer. Our interest in your vehicle doesn't stop with its sale; rather, it
continues throughout the vehicle's warranty
period and beyond.
BMW has become aware of a potential problem that could affect the durability
of the high-pressure fuel pump of certain MY 2007/2008 BMW automobiles
equipped with a 3.0 liter engine. We estimate that only a small percentage of
vehicles will actually develop a problem. Vehicles affected may have the
Service Engine Soon lamp illuminated. Also, the affected vehicles may
experience an extended engine starting time ("long crank***8221 or reduced engine
performance when the high-pressure fuel pump malfunctions.
As a commitment to our customers and to demonstrate our confidence in our
product, BMW will extend the emissions warranty for the high-pressure fuel
pump to 10 years or 120,000 miles, whichever comes first. The emissions
warranty extension for this component applies to your vehicle and is
transferable to any subsequent purchaser of your car. All terms and conditions
of the California Emissions Warranty, the Federal Emissions Defect Warranty,
and the Federal Emissions Performance Warranty apply to the extended
warranty. Warranty coverage for all other parts is not affected. Warranty terms
and conditions can be found in your warranty booklet.
The integrity of our products has been essential to our reputation, our success,
and our customer's trust. We hope this extension of the emissions warranty
will further enhance your ownership experience and satisfaction. Should you
have any questions, please call us toll-free at 1-800-831-1117.
In the unlikely event that the high-pressure fuel pump of your vehicle shows the
above symptoms or any other problem, please feel free to call the nearest
authorized BMW dealer for an appointment. All authorized BMW dealers will be
informed of this warranty extension via a Service Information bulletin.
Please be assured that we at BMW are totally committed to the highest
standards of product excellence and owner experience, and are determined to
maintain a level of service that exceeds your expectations.
Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
Sincerely"

1) If the HPFP goes it will continue to go on the car. It has begun to happened to people from 3k miles to 50k miles. Get used to the possiblitiy of driving home in Limp home mode.
2) Its good to see BMW warrantying the car, however as one BMW person put it. "I am sick of driving a car that is built with substandard parts. and when I go in they just put more of the substandard parts on the car. Waiting to brake again."
3) That being said, the car is simply the SH*T!! It has probably the best feeling turbo engine I have ever driven outside of my uncles Bentley Continental GT. So much power, so easily tuned. Beautiful to drive and is such a silent killer. I was blown away when I drove my buddies. I did not think it was a sharp handling as everyone makes it out to be. I thought his coupe was kinda soft feeling to me.
4) I have seen guys on line with blown/incinerated turbines that then destroyed the engines. They were in a big battle with BMW North America on if BMW would warranty the engine.
5) I am assuming you are leasing the car or will sell it before warranty is up. I will be curious to see what your BMW service experience is like. I have heard so many horror stories from people on the web and people I know. I am assuming you were satisfied with your Infiniti service world as you had 3 of them. I think you might be in for a suprise if you have a problem with the car. Or you may just fall in love with the BMW.
6) There are attorneys I believe in CA that have class action lawsuits on behalf of a bunch of 335 owners out against BMW for the HPFP. They have had what... now almost 4 years to fix the problem, and their cure is to change the engine from two turbos to one. Pretty much neglecting the people who will have their 07-08 warranties expire this year. I know they extended it but... They just dont want their 50k car to be sitting at the dealer constantly.
7) From what I have heard once the Fuel pump goes you also are asked by the dealer to change the injectors. I think thats about a 2k job.
8) With all that being said, you may be one of the thousands of lucky guys who have NO problems with the car.
Enjoy the Beautiful BMW.

I think stock they are like 4.7-4.9 to 60 and like higher 13s in the 1/4.
But for like $500 bucks you can get the computer to boost em to like 400 RWHP or some crazy thing like that.
I have seen videos wherer they are beating new M5's and M3s easily. But you also would need to upgrade to the M3 Limited Slip diff when you do that.

I kinda downgraded from my e39 5 series to my current G35 S, but no regrets.. worrying about maintenance kinda took away the enjoyment of owning a BMW. For sure the bimmer is much more refined, the engine is silky smooth, and it just seems to be put together much better than my G. But I no longer worry about my cooling system, or my suspension, or random electrical "glitches". But I definitely wouldn't mind leasing the new F10 5 Series later on down the road.
