what about this?

if some of you remember about 3 wks ago my initial thread "Returning Advice". Well I'm going to look at this one on Friday, I can have them certify it $1000 more, should I? Is it worth it to have it certified?

which one is it? and certified basically gives you a warranty, right? $1,000 doesn't seem that bad for a dealer warranty on a used car, so I'd say do it.

Sounds like a solid price... Just carfax it and drive it.

And if you do get it, see if they'll "throw in" the nav update.

Certified is usually the way too go if the cost makes sense. Did they tell you what they are doing for $1000?
Can you get your hands on the car and take it to your own mechanic. Maybe it doesnt need a $1000 to certify.
Certifying isn't like a warranty it just means it passed the minimum inspection requirements to make it legal. If the transmission falls out a certification isn't going to help you. With only 25k miles on her, you have a factory warranty for that.
That being said, I would never buy a car this new unless it was certified or I new ahead, exactly what it needs to get it certified on my own.

I don't have my own mechanic, and certified here in the US also means that it qualifies for Manufacturer low APR. I know the mikes are low but it only has 1Yr left for the 4yr/50K miles factory, and I don't know exactly when the in service date started. If it was early 2007, then I only have 5-6 months before the warranty expires (4 yrs).

It also means that the warranty goes beyond the factory 50K, don't know the specific number as yet. I will find out all details.

How much better is the Manufacturers lower APR. Is it going to save you more than a $1000 over the term. If so then definitely do it for that reason. If not then the $1000 is better off in your own pocket.
I guess if you don't have your own mechanic you are sort of at their mercy with regards to what the cost of certification should be for this car. To be fair I think you should have the right to ask what is costing $1000.
Are you saying that if they certify it they automatically extend the warranty?

The Nav will read "09-10 Map Year" with the most current version.

I went for the CPO for the extended warranty, and the much lower interest rates (at that time, it ranged from 1.99% for 36 months to 3.59% for 60 months).

Yes certified means it extends the warranty beyond the factory, or maybe it starts over (ie another 50K). Factory APR for me in the past with 3 previous Nissans/Infinity was 2.9-3.9% for 60 months. Don't know what they're offering now but if it's low I'll qualify for it. Regular banks will give you 6.4 or so for a used car (depending on your credit), and it goes higher for those with a crappy credit score/history. More to follow on Friday or maybe I'll just post pics of my new ride

The Infiniti Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) program is crafted to offer you the full Infiniti experience at a pre-owned value. The joy of driving an Infiniti energized by design. The confidence of knowing it’s backed by warranty coverage. And the satisfaction of enjoying the same individualized service and programs that define The Total Ownership Experience® for owners of new Infiniti vehicles.

Only Infiniti models less than four years old and with under 60,000 miles qualify for the program, and then they must pass a rigorous inspection. So when you take delivery, your Certified Pre-Owned Infiniti includes a 72-month/100,000 total-vehicle-mile warranty, roadside assistance, trip interruption benefits and towing assistance.

And every Certified Pre-Owned buyer is invited to return to an Infiniti Retailer for service with a complimentary oil filter change[*], valid anytime within the first year of ownership.

Now you cleared it up for me. You meant CPO. Thats different than what I thought you meant in the original post when you asked "Is it worth it to have it certified". To me there is a difference. I think of plain old 'certified' in the same light as a safety check. When people sell cars in Canada they often refer to them as 'certified/safetied' or 'as is'. Hence my misunderstanding.
CPO looks like a good option. A few years or 75,000 miles of added warranty for $1000. You cant really go wrong.

I have a friend who is currently looking at used G's and he has been told that they wll only cut $300 off the price of a certified pre-own if he opts to drop the certified warranty... seemed shady to me.
CPO is a better option than a third-party extended.
Don't fall for one of those.

Well the work is already been done to get the vehicle to the point of the CPO warranty. If he chooses to drop the coverage the dealership in turn cannot recoup the cost it took to get the car to that point so i guess it's one of those sunk cost I guess. Of course the dealer made out a little also

West houston added 500 on mine to do that... 1000 seems steep, but what you described you were getting sounds pretty good... i wish i would have gotten the 6spd instead!
