Prospective Buyer, Questions about features and Maintenance from drivers

I am in the market for 2007-2008 G35, I am looking for Automatic
I've been searching my area and seeing varying prices from 17K to 24K
I know we only get snow a few times of year here in NC so I guess X(AWD) is optional.

Here are my questions:
What optional features should I be looking for ?

Is Navigation worth it (we have a 04 TL with navi and rarely use it, maps are outdated also and Acura wants $200 for a CD)

Is Bluetooth standard or an added feature

How can I connect my Iphone to easily listen to podcast ?

I looked at the maintenance scheduled and don't see any recommended flushes or belt changes through 120K, is this right ?
http://www.infinitiusa.com/pdf/owner...ance_Guide.pdf

How much should I look to pay?
Would 17.5K for a 2007 with 79,000 miles on it be a good deal ?

Can't offer much in terms of your deal because I drive an 05, but can speak to what I've found useful.

I have an 05 sedan. It's been bulletproof in terms of mechanical issues and function. I've flushed the tranny, cooling system, and changed the rear end fluid just as a matter of time, not mileage. I only have 32,000 on the car.

I changed the serpentine belt because it was squeaking at low RPM, but after 3 years in the 100+ heat of south Texas and then two winters up here in Seattle it doesn't seem unreasonable. Again, the car is almost 6 years old.

Didn't get NAV and don't miss it. I have a nice portable NAV and have NAV on my phone which works great, so I'm good to go. For me connect iPod requires a modification, but I believe it can be had standard on the later models.

I love smart key. Don't know if that's standard or part of a package these days. I didn't think it was a big deal when I got it, but now I can't live without it.

I threw a set of tires on the old girl at about 30,000. It wasn't a wear issue, it was an old tires make too much noise issue. I bought a high quality touring tire and she rides like a new car. It really toned sown the road noise, but the car you're looking at is already known for being quitter than the first generation so...

Good luck with your purchase. You'll love the car and if driven civilly I doubt you'll have any serious issues. They're really great cars.

i have an '08 xS sedan auto.
Nav is cool but i don't use it but once a month, work home work home work home, no need mostly.
bluetooth is on the premium package, sorry don't know about the other packages.
Iphone and podcast is a bit goofy, but works, i listen to Pandora alot. you basically need to create a blank audio track, sync that to your iphone, that opens the audio stream to your car (with the correct iphone cable $29 that charges also).

So I am guessing I would use the RCA jacks that are located in the arm rest correct ?

Should I be concerned that the 07 with 79,000 miles on it has only had oil changes and tire rotation/replacement ?

I bought my 2007 with 64k miles in June. Now it has 75k+ miles on it. Running stronger than ever. Love the G sedan.

Hey thanks for that. I just think its strange that there is no required maintenance on this car over 120K. I coming from 2003 IS300 which had some various fluid flushes and major timing belt, water pump replacement at 90K. I never had an issue with that car and drove it civilly but enjoyable at times

I checked the maintenance guide for 07 G35, it just list PREMIUM MAINTENANCE at 90K do these things but its not required and appears the car has a timing chain which does not need to be change for really long time.

If Infiniti has figured out how to avoid this unnecessary flushes and stuff, kudas to them

Personally I'm a little more aggressive in my upkeep and maintenance, but I'd check the maintenance chart and see what might have been overlooked.

If they've done oil changes every 3000 that's a good start.

I can only speak for the 2007 2nd gen.

Nav isn't worth it, but on the '07's it was needed to get the Tech Package which included the back-up camera. That was important to me and worth the price -- then again i bought my car used as well so no real (high) premium's were paid for these packages.

Bluetooth is def standard with the Premium package (comes with the Studio on Wheels/Bose) but no streaming audio.

On '07 you could only connect peripherals through RCA jacks.

I recently got a used 07 G35X. Its mostly my wife's but I drive it a lot. I love it. It had 50k miles on it. It has Nav but no back up cameras or active cruise control.

I would not waste money on the Nav system. In fact, both my wife and I hate it. I think a $150 Garmin has a better user interface. So save money there if you can.

I would not pay for the back up camera or active cruise either. Just not my cup of tea. YMMV.

We live in SC (snow maybe once or twice a year) but we still wanted an X. For one thing, it handles the wet very well. Plus we have a cabin with a long dirt driveway that gets slippery when it rains. The X has handled it well once I got the drive leveled up with the tractor.

If you skip the X and all the tech stuff you can save a good bit. Either way, I think a used 07 is a great way to get a superb car for the price of a mediocre new car. Good luck.

I plan to change trans fluid and differential at 30K intervals, but it's not required. At 60K I'll probably do coolant, brake fluid, power steering fluid, etc.

Remember, Infiniti (and every other carmaker) WANTS your car to break down after the powertrain warranty runs out. Very few components with fluid changes possible will fail before 70K with no fluid changes -- but after.... who knows?

I had a '92 Q45 with no fluid-related failures at 240K miles (other than ethanol eating the injectors).

Welcome, and good luck with your purchase.

For the minimal amount of extra money (less performance), in NC I would strongly consider an X. I live in TX, so I don't have one.

http://x.infinitihelp.com/service/20...vice_guide.pdf

At 15k, 45k, and 75k, there should have been an in-cabin filter replacement.
AT 30k, 60k, and 90k, there should have been an air filter replacement, and if the car was driven on 'rough or muddy roads', a replacement of transmission fluid and differential fluid (as well as transfer case fluid on the X).

In addition, there is a long list of inspections designed to allow a trained technician discover problems before they do damage. So tire rotations and oil changes don't cover it by a long shot. Caveat Emptor.

Thanks for all the tips, going to look and test drive the car later this week
The wife really doesn't want me spending over 15K but I feel its worth the extra 2-3 for an 2007 for the new body styling
I agree with changing the fluids at 60K, etc as previous poster listed just stating that the current owner may not have done it. Ill definitely get the car checked out before buying it. I wouldn't mind getting X (AWD) just not always as easy to find plus generally cost more and still can't justify the cost difference when its not needed

Should I be worried that its a 2007 and it has almost 80,000 miles on it (Seems like 20-25K a year)? Guess I am still stuck in the days when we would ditch a car before it hit 100K

Should I hold out until spring of next year, you think the prices will be drastically lower (right now its about 17-23K for 2007, varies by mileage, dealership vs owner and options)? and the car I am looking at is by owner at 18K non X with 80K miles and premium sound package.

Any other tips or things to look for are appreciated

Not sure how much help I can be but I just picked up my first Infiniti G35 Coupe (2007) last week. Needless to say I absolutely love it. Only 28k miles and I paid 23,900. for it. It must have been well taken care of as the exterior and interior are like new still. I'd for go the Nav as well. Most cell phones do just as good now days.

The Premium package is well worth it. My phone intergrates with the Bluetooth and garage door opener is synced up with the Homelink feature in the mirror. All in all I'm very pleased with my purchase.

Good Luck shopping !!

just got my o7 35x today. Includes all features except adaptive lights and the cruise control distance sensor thingamagiggy. Paid $21k with 48,000 miles. IMO you can do a lot better than $17k for that amount of mileage. There are alot to choose from (at least east coast), for a couple grand more you can half 1/2 the mileage. Good luck with what ever you choose.

I have Navi...it serves me very well but I use the car for work and I go drive everywhere. Also, premium package is cool too little things like full auto windows on all 4 windows and auto dimming mirror homelink..heated seats are all great for me. Some people could careless but I tend to miss all my options whenever I get service loaners that are base models. You just have to consider what's important to you, for me it was Navigation so it took me awhile to look for just the right one.

I got mine used. 4000miles (not a type-o), prem pkg, navi for 27otd. It still smells new
