Radar detectors don't protect you from laser. They only alert to it. Once the radar detector alerts you of laser (which is highly unlikely because laser guns are difficult to detect), the cop already knows your speed. It's useless against laser guns. Against laser guns, I recommend a laser jammer. (If I had the money, I'd get the best- Laser interceptor Gen 8)

As for hardwiring the radar detector, I'm not a fan of the stealthcord. I feel like they suck power from the mirror, which may cause electrical issues because technically, you're splicing the wires. I use an add a fuse kit to the fuse box and it doesn't void any warranty. It also ends up being cheaper, and you can pick it up at pepboys, advance auto, autozone, etc. I also have the comfort of knowing that it is less likely to have power issues in the mirror later on in life. I also hide the cord in the liner so there are no visible wires on the windshield.

I have an Escort Redline hardwired to the left of my RVM, for maximum stealth and coverage for radar detection. I used to have a Whistler Pro-78se which worked pretty well, but given how fast I speed (usually 15mph over PSL) they don't alert fast enough. The Redline gives much better protection around curved and hilly roads. The only downfall is that the Redline costs a lot more (Around $400). It is also undetectable by radar detector detectors used in Virginia like the Spectre. It is illegal to use a radar detector in Canada, Washington DC, and Virginia.

Massachusetts State Troopers almost all predominantly use laser nowadays.

The point of a radar detector is to alert you ahead of time so you can slow down before the cop can read your speed. I see no point in owning one if it alerts you after the cop gets your speed. I believe the OP is using a radar detector to alert him of traps ahead of time so he can prepare accordingly. Just owning one to be informed too late of a speed trap is not practical.

Using the invisicord voids your warranty. Using the add a fuse kit does not void your warranty. I just want the peace of mind that I'm not doing any "mods" to the electrical components.

All mods (except cosmetic) carry a risk that you might screw up your car somehow. I'd rather stay away from that. Plus, the invisicord only works with Valentine One and the Escort models, I believe. They use the phone jack power cord. The Whistler doesn't use the same power cord.

 

^ as much as i agree with u on the mods voiding warranty, unless the dealer can prove that it affects the car in a bad way, they cant void the warranty. I have seen a guy here with aftermarket exhaust, intake and black betty ground kit and his warranty is still valid.

and you can mod the invisicord if you really want to, like i did for my detector.

Yeah, but using a product in a way that it is not designed to do (like having your mirror using less power than recommended) always carry a risk of being damaged. Maybe it shortens the life of the mirror. It may even break after your warranty ends. Who knows?

BTW how is that Cobra? If you read on reviews of the Cobra detectors, they are the worst and leakiest ones in the market. They are easily picked up by the Spectre over half a mile long. They also cause other radar detectors to go off because it leaks too much. You can check www.guysoflidar.com for the full review of the detectors. haha yeah man, i know cobra detectors are not top of the line, this is from my last ride,

and my racing days are over, so i never cared to upgrade my detector, as i mentioned before, it never hurts to have one.

 

Yeah, my gf still thinks that I am crazy for buying such an expensive detector. Now it's kinda useless since I moved to Boston about two months after buying that detector. The funny part is that when I actually use my detector, I don't encounter any cops. When I am too lazy to hook it up (since I have to hide my radar detector everytime I park), I encounter cops shooting laser at me. One time, I was going 20+ over the PSL, but the cop didn't pull me over, and pulled someone else behind me over. I was so relieved! Unfortunately, my gf was with me so she was like, "why did you buy that detector if you aren't even going to use it?"

thanks for all the input, ended up finding answers regarding ipod on my own. Iphones wont charge through the connection only ipods. and found that i have to hit the scan button for shuffle...much thanks.
