IPOD Charging

According to the owners manual the IPOD will charge while hooked up, does this mean only when the car is being driven and not while the engine is off?

The reason I ask is my wife's IPOD while hooked up will not stay charged but then she only takes short trips during the day!

Thanks

Mine 3rd generation Ipod charges too only when the ingnition is on. Interesting though I just picked up the newest generation Nano and it does NOT charge at all when hooked up to the Ipod adapter. Irritating...

This is a little off topic but still relevant to the thread.

When using your ipod w/ the car try not to have it plugged in when starting the car as it can cause a minor power surge to the unit. It is not something that will instantaneously harm your ipod but over time and multiple instances of this occurring, it could cause your iPod to crap out. It happened to me with my 2nd gen iPod. Not really a big deal if you happen to forget every so often, but try not to make a habit of it.

It could be different with the 08 sedans that have built in iPod connectivity.

My IPOD nano will only charge with the ignition on. Sometimes, when I leave the IPOD hooked up to the car overnight it will totally discharge. What I do now is just pause the IPOD then disconnect it before I turn off the ignition.

Your 12V is only on when the key is on. You could wire something independently to charge all the time if you like - it wouldn't be hard.

they can be charged guys, you just need an adapter. old gen ipods/phone's 30 pin connector is set up differently now, which means the pin that provides power in the G's might not me in the same location that receives power on the ipod/phone.
something like this would fix all of yalls problems

Amazon Amazon
