Fob battery draining

My fob has started to show a problem. A new battery is shown as not being full charge on the DIC after only a week or so. I put a new battery in it last August. In Dec it started showing up on DIC when car is started. Bought a new battery ans installed last week. Today it shows up as not full charge when I start the car. Battery I removed tested as 3 V though after I took it out. Is the fob going bad?

Stop following that display. If your doors are still opening at a reasonable distance why are you changing the battery? I'm not convinced that the center display actually gives an accurate reading of battery strenght remaining. Just my thought.

My dealer keeps telling that my batter is getting low and they can replace for $9. I laugh and nicely say no thanks. Seriously $9 for a $2 battery? Yeah rite

I moved the storage location in the kitchen to a spot further away from the car in garage. Will see if that causes any different display response when starting car.

These batteries last a long time. I have had my 1st battery when i bought the car in 08 brand new. A year later the low batt on the dash board showed up. Kept it for about 2 months and when to the spare key. Now i am going back to the 1st key and it's still good. It's low but still works. You'll be fine.

Also worth to mention the battery can expire too. If the battery was on a self for long time they won't be as good. If you buy a battery try to buy from the store where there the sales volume is higher.

I'm on a trend of my FOB going through a battery every 3 months. Don't know if it will change; I'm gonna get a big pack of them from amazon or something

Oh! This looks good:

Don't keep the fob close to the car when it is not running. I had the same thing. I kept all my spare keys in the garage in the key cabinet. Never used it and when I tried it was low. Did that few times on me. Moved the cabinet and problem solved.

This has been discussed several times, if you want to dig up the threads.

The FOBs do seem to go bad after awhile.
I had one FOB that used batteries quickly and my other still had the original.
On the good one, I replace the battery for the 1st time in late November; now it's going too.

IMO something goes bad in the transmitter & it stops going into 'sleep' mode.
If a transmitter is 'ON' all the time it will use much more juice.

RE: the dash indicator.
I find you can go a couple of weeks before it starts telling me to use the socket to start the car.

Isnt there also a risk of draining the key fob battery if you keep your key near your cellphone?

I remember reading about how the two dont work well when they are close together.

That may also be why you are getting the battery problems.

This definitely gets to be a PITA when they start to go bad.
IIRC Shane (Garnet Canuk) was getting less than a month out of his the last year of his lease.

...looks like mine will be the same.

There is definitely something that fails in these things.

I think that's true and also the reason for the recall on the fobs if I'm not mistaken.

update

I buy mine from
http://store.batteryspecialists.com/
best prices and free shipping
I have found my problem, it was the wife's fob that was low battery, not mine. It appears that the system sees both fobs when they are in the car together. Even though mine is the one that started the car. Hers is in her purse in passenger floorboard, and system sees its battery as low. I changed battery in her fob and no longer get the DIC warning of low fob battery.
