Here's an interesting twist. The local import shop call's my wife back and says he called Infiniti for parts info and was told there was a known problem with the front wheel bearings and that my wife should call the dealership and ask.

I don't know if they are referring to a TSB or not but they told him that even though the car was out of warranty (62K miles and time) that Infiniti would probably honor the warranty.

So my wife calls the dealership that she took it to originally and they tell her that unless they find evidence of abuse or an accident that they will replace it under warranty. So it seems, at this point, that Infiniti and this local dealership are stepping up to the plate and doing the right thing. She takes it up there next week.

If they end up doing the work under warranty I'll update here and give the name of the dealership.

If they won't do it under warranty I won't mention their name.

If they won't do it under warranty AND charge more than the import shop ($320) and more than Nissan ($385) I'll definitely put their name out there as bad guys.

The local import shop is called A&M Automotive. They are in Rock Hill, SC just south of Charlotte, NC. They have serviced all of my Nissans lately and they are fair and do good work. I think it is especially cool of them to have told my wife about getting this done for free. He could have just ordered the part and done the work himself and there would have been nothing wrong with that. Instead, he lost business in order to help me out. I respect that and will refer people his way whenever I get the chance.

^ wow hope it works out for you, and it really is nice of the shop to suggest your wife to try the dealership again considering they could easily have made a few hundred here. Hope the dealership does not give you a hard time, however if they say that they will NOT cover it under warranty and the price is much higher DONT let them do it and earn more $$.

I truely hope though that they fix it under warranty, and from the looks of it you should be fine. keep us posted.

My wife just called from the dealership. They looked at the car and told her that the LEFT wheel bearing was definitely defective and they would replace it under warranty, even though the warranty has expired on time (and miles too I think, 63k) and even though we did not buy it there and gave her a loaner (G37). Very cool of them.

The problem is that the noise comes from the RIGHT side. Very distinctly and you can even feel it now, very much on the right side. They said they would check out the right side and replace it too if necessary.

Anyway, she picks it up tomorrow.

Here is a side note: I bought my used G35 6MT coupe from them. When I did they tried to tack $1800 on the advertised price because they had done ALL of the routine maintenance getting it ready for sale. (I did not pay the $1800). My wife requested the maintenance records on the car and they had done NOTHING to it. In fact, it appears that it was past due for stuff at the time.

They also only gave me one key for the coupe. She asked them how much for a second key and they quoted her $140 for the key and $100 for programming.

So, as far as the shop goes I'd give this place an A+ if all goes as planned.

As far as used car sales, C-. I know dishonesty is the norm in used car sales....but that doesn't make it right.

TSB ITB10-067 issued for this problem. http://x.infinitihelp.com/forum/loca...s.php?catid=87

Should be covered under warranty for both wheels.

Dealerships don't have to pay for warranty work. I work for a Harley Davidson dealership. Harley pays us for the parts and labor we use. So any chance we get to do warranty work is welcome. So if it is a legit warranty, they should be happy to do the work. SHOULD BE!!

^ i knew that was the case but the confirmation helps a lot, allows for more confidence when one goes in for some warranty work, when you know the dealership will get paid for it then you dont really feel like they are doing you a favor and that can help you politely argue your case with some confidence.

@N80 hope everything works out for you, keep us posted.

We got the car back and all is well. Zero cost. No more wump. It was the left side. I have no idea why it sounded so clearly like it was on the right, but it doesn't matter at this point.

So, props to Lake Norman Infiniti just north of Charlotte, NC.

But, if you buy a used car there, do your homework.

rhampar, thanks for the link to the TSB. I looked for it briefly but was unable to find it on my own.
