Windshield Noise Advice

Hi all....

I got a rock hit on my windshield today. Bummed me out a bit but I'll get it fixed. Now, I had a w/shield put in about two years ago and when it's cold, I get the plasticy popping sound from the lower center of the w/shield. I'm going to wait 'till next week to get it replaced because April is my sticker month but what advice or suggestion should I give the installer to alleviate this problem in the future?

More sealer? Less sealer? New molding? I don't want this guy to think I'm telling him how to do his job but I also don't want this issue any more.

Ideas???

Thanks..

Mike

It's not the windshield.. It's the cowl right above the windshield.. If you spray some Silicone spray you'll realize that the noise has stopped..

Supposedly the cowl gets dirty and if you really want to fix this issue you will remove, clean, and lube the cowl and you won't get the popping noise anymore.

Search Myg37.. A lot of g37/g35 owners have similar popping noise issues with their windshields..

I stuffed a super thin piece of dark gray foam between the plastic cowl and the windshield on the passenger side and it took care of the issue

^^^thanks all, this issue has been bothering me for a while as well. I am getting my windshield replaced in a week as it took one too many direct pebble hits and will make sure the installer puts a similar bit of foam between the windshield and the cowl (will provide foam).

Thanks guys....

I did try the silicone thing and it did work for a while but, of course, it came back. I always thought the culprit was the w/shield itself.

So, how thick on the foam and exactly where along the cowl?

Thanks..

Mike

it is extremely thin non absorbent piece like a piece of cotton cloth that i wedged in between the cowl and windshield starting all the way from the passenger side to a little less than half way to the middle, pretty close to where the cowl joint is.
