paint then plasti dip

i want to blacken out my front grill. the ionic emblemless grill would be great except i have a sedan. i have looked into the oem midnight black grill but i do not like the upper and lower chrome bars. i want all black.

i only want to go through the painting process once but i am concerned about chips from rocks and debris.

has anyone painted their grill black and then applied plasti dip on top of the paint?

That would be pretty pointless. Might as well only plastidip it. It's pretty strong and holds up pretty well against rock chips (better than regular paint)

Yeah, seems like overkill to me.

i just figured if a rock went through the plastidip layer then a black paint underlay would be one more layer before exposing the chrome.

can a gouge in plastidip be spot sprayed or does the entire surface need to be removed and resprayed?

do plasti dip and then some clear coat that should help it last longer and give it a glossy finish
