Spring Installation woes.........any advice?
Spring Installation woes.........any advice?
So I went to put my Eibach's on my '08 G35S yesterday. I will start by saying I am not a novice when it comes to car installs. I have done everything from motor installs to complete race suspension set ups.
I went to take off the front strut yesterday and I could not get the main bolt that holds the bottom of the strut and the front sway to budge at all. I used a 2.5ft breaker bar and a 1/2 inch air gun at 150psi and the thing would not move. I got so frustrated that I put the car back together and went inside and had multiple beers.
Has anyone else had this issue when they went to lower there car? What did you do to finally get the bolt off? Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks

yup ran into the same problem taking out my oem struts to put in my coils...
i got so frustrated that i just hammered it out and stripped it so i went out and got a new bolt from infiniti lol

I just did my Eibachs on Saturday, and was surprised at how all 4 of my "main" bolts (all 4 corners) came out. I've done a few Subarus before this, and I've had a helluva time with breaker bars, etc... So I can so no issues with the removal of these bolts. Try so liquid wrench, spray it on a few hours prior, and then get to work. Maybe a higher psi on the impact wrench?
That being said, I did have trouble compressing the Eibachs to fit on the front struts. I ended up having to take them to a shop to use their compressor. the problem being the coils are wound so tight up top that I couldn't make the loaner compressors fit. I also wish there was a bit more of a drop in the front. Realistically, will the car lower any more over the following weeks? The rear is great, but the front could use another 1/2" or so.

I had the same issue, all you need is your whatever wrench you're using and stick a long metal pole (longer than the one you're using) which is hollow from the middle, big enough so you can slip your wrench handle into. Basically just make a HUGE breaker bar.
I used a metal bar I had for weights, similar to something like this:

any metal bar will do really, just make sure its strong so it doesn't bend. Honestly it's a piece of cake once you put a longer handle on.

One side came off no problem but the other took several attempts and I got it off with just a breaker bar and a jack poll over that. Just make sure to use a six sided socket as multiple people on MyG37 stripped this nut/bolt using a 12 sided socket. I too had trouble with the front spring/struts so just took them to the Nissan dealer and the swapped them out for $27. Good Luck

I drenched all the bolts with PB Blaster a week, several days, a few hours and a few minutes before doing the install then used an impact on both ends (air on one, cordless on the other).
Although i think the air would've done it just fine at that point, i tried removing these bolts a few months before and it just would not budge. I did replace the hose with a larger diameter and ran my small compressor at full-tilt (125psi) the second time around -- i think that's what did it coupled with PB.

Mine were too tight for my impact as well... the driver's side in particular was difficult. I just soaked them overnight with WD40 and then used a 3' pipe on the end of my 24" breaker bar and jumped on the end of it until it broke loose. The whole tool "assembly" flexed so badly that I thought I was gonne twist my 1/2" extension in two. LOL
I made sure to use anti-seize when I reassembled and have not had a problem removing them since... have had the suspension on and off the car at least 10 times in the past year.
